Of the two ND players Terry mentioned, i think Brown is the more deserving. The Bus was a flamboyant player who got lots of media attention, but Brown quietly caught over 1,000 balls and was an ace punt returner. All told, he has over 19,000 total NFL yards. Should be in the Hall.
I think that Bettis should be in the Hall. Like I said, maybe next year.
Here are Jerome Bettis' NFL stats:
3,479 rushes, 13,662 yards, 3.9 avg. 91 TD's
He is 5th all time in the NFL in rushing. He didn't exactly break it outside for the long runs. He just ran over people.
Here are Tim Brown's NFL stats:
1,094 receptions 14,934 yards 13.7 avg. 100 TD's
I am not even including all of his punt and kickoff return yards here.
I agree. He should be in Canton, no question.
While I am at it (and probably hijacked a thread, sorry), here is another ND guy that I believe should be elected to Canton, but is probably a long shot:
Ricky Watters:
2,622 rushes 10,643 yards 4.1 avg. 78 TD's 467 rec 4,248 yards 9.1 avg. 13 TD's
We are talking the #5 (Tim Brown), #26 (Jerome Bettis) and #28 Ricky Watters ranked players (all time) in NFL All Purpose Yards.
