Godda luv reply to media by NU's Pat Fitzs
Did you catch the post signing day interview with NU's PatF.....?

He really was rather direct and abrupt with media for dissing his recruiting class and reminded them all the Rose Bowl team had the lowest ranked junior and senior classes in BT.

He does have an honest, refreshing & hardazz mentality with chgo media I welcome at times.

I saw Fitzgerald on Channel 7 last night. He came off as testy, almost bitter. Don't know why; NU gets plenty of positive coverage by the Chicago media.

Too much for as little as they've accomplished, IMO.

Scripted grandstanding showmanship probably masterminded by that clown Phillips.

Phillips just went to NU with NIU's typecast. NU isn't the disrespected everyman they are playing up to be, that's NIU. He threw that out there and in the same breath takes credit for NU's "best recruiting class" ever. A class they were able to get because of their privileged "AQ" status. No mention in that presser that they made a last second reach for one of our recruits in an attempt to "Big Time" NIU and take away a kid that our staff has spent the time and effort in getting to know and familiarize with our program and the benefits that it can provide to him.

Comical and sad.

It has nothing to do with Phillips. That's been Fitz's signing day spiel since before Phillips came to NU. Fitz does make a good point, but it gets a little old hearing it year after year.

Never understood the "disrespect" card played by anybody, including people on here.

Northwestern hasn't won a bowl game since the 40's and have never been to the NCAA tournament. They're about as irrelevant of a major athletic program as you'll find (only including the two major ones, of course).

People can "disrespect" NIU all they want. It doesn't matter what anybody says. Win on the field (or on the court) and that's all that matters.

I think that Fitz is starting to feel the pressure. Barnett and Walker won games but they could not win a bowl. Fitz has done the same and I bet he is feeling serious pressure by NU fans because of it. When they brought him in, he was suppossed to walk on water. Apparently that has not happened.

Supposedly, Fitzgerald was the #1 choice at Michigan before Hoke was hired. He may regret turning them down.

Fitz gets targeted by everyone....

He deals with crazy admission standards(way higher than ND) but he can't seem to find a qb..On a side note interested in seeing how Stanford does without luck

Stanford has recruited like crazy the last few years, and Shaw is really highly thought of, so they should be fine going forward. They'll take a step back next year with all the guys they lose, but long-term they are set up pretty well. They'll have talent, and Shaw seems to be a pretty solid head guy.

He signed an extension through 2020 like a year ago. He just brought in one of the highest ranked recruiting class in school history- if you believe those awful recruiting website :) . The results on the field the last couple of years have been disappointing, but I doubt he's feeling too much pressure just yet.

The University promised him they would throw some money at the football facilities- likely the worst in the conference- and they're still figuring out how to do it. Once that's been done he'll be eligible to feel some pressure.

I think Fitzgerald is overrated. Northwestern continually finds themselves with 7-win type seasons and no postseason wins. They schedule rather weak OOC schedules which help them get bowl eligible. They do score the occasional big ten upset but that is bound to happen when you play eight games against conference foes every season and get to play half of them at home.

That may also be Northwestern's ceiling as far as football goes. They can get bowl eligible as well as post the occasional shocker season, but they have mediocre facilities compared to the rest of the Big ten, the admissions standards are and always will be a bi#ch to deal with, and they have a fanbase that makes ours look rabid by comparison.

Northwestern's just never going to whore it out for football glory the way Michigan or Wisconsin will or Notre Dame did under Holtz. That really should be to their credit, but as corrupt and bulls#*t as college athletics is, it seems like a criticism.

I actually liked this quote the best...
