Interesting Recruiting Notes
7 MAC teams got 16 Illinois players. CMU 4, EMU 3, Tol 3, WMU 3, BG 1, Miami 1, BSU 1

Illinois only 4 and Northwestern 4. Our 16 Illinois recruits sends a strong message to Illinois high school coaches that we are committed first to the state kids.

RE: Interesting Recruiting Notes
It's a good message going into next year as the state of Illinois is supposed to have an excellent class overall next year.

RE: Interesting Recruiting Notes
Doeren shed some light on what he wants in his program.

5 scholarship QB's
&
16 scholarship O-linemen – a three-deep at each position.

Did anyone see anything else like this for other positions?

Quote:– Doeren signed 13 linemen (seven offensive, six defensive) and 10 players who weigh at least 275 pounds. He also signed three 300-pounders, a somewhat high number for the Mid-American Conference. He said the goal was to have 16 offensive linemen on scholarship – a three-deep at each position.

RE: Interesting Recruiting Notes
He commented that he wanted to be three deep on the O and D lines and that he wanted 5 QBs in the program. The man has a plan and knows how he wants to build the program. I like his managed approach.

5 QBs is going to be hard to keep especially if one or two begin to dominate

A senior, a junior, a sophomore, and 2 freshmen. Doesn't really sound that hard.

I bet this is the idea...
2 Jr/Sr
3 Fr/So (2 always developing)

Doeren understands that there is very little chance he will get 3 deep with Jr/Sr. Any 3rd string Jr on scholarship would be more likely to transfer to an FCS school unless he is likely to be the starter the next year and he really loves being a Huskie.

Along the lines of what chihuskie said, I think there has to be an assumption that scholarship QBs who don't see themselves on a starting track (or future coach track) after a couple years will transfer.

I don't recall many Sr. backup QBs in my NIU fan life.

With the state having a strong class it will be key to get as many verbals as we can upfront and over the summer. Hopefully we can lock down a few more solid verbals early in our home state.

If they are in a really high profile academic program ie accounting or the like they may stay for the education.

As someone who only graduated threeish years ago, I can attest that neither are that great at NIU. Not bad...serviceable. "Seen better, done worse."

You think you're tellin' me something I don't know, Junior? I had to recruit out of state for Mrs Cawoo, who came along at just the right time because I was starting to wonder if hot Russian women really were interested in meeting me.

For some reason, prowling AMEX didn't lead to many successful relationships....

$1.85 pitchers of Old Milwaukee Sunday through Tuesday, though, and free popcorn. Not a total waste.

Glad to see we'll be playing 5.33 linemen at each level on the depth chart.

Agreed, but he will restock as necessary to keep 5 in the program. Eventually what you want is the right spacing
