Recruiting 2012 - The Day After
I believe in drama they call it the denouement, the falling action after the climax.

Yesterday was definitely the climax and now we just put the final touches on the drama called 'EMU FB Recruiting 2012'.

My final questions are:

1). Is Bowen still a member of this class?

2). Will Alex Hook officially become a member of this class?

3). Are there any more JUCO DLs (or was Pipkins taken en lieu?)?

4). Do we have room for a class greater than 25?

Lot of the drama was resolved in the last couple days:

Sprearman to EMU 04-cheers Remaine Dougle to Louisiana. Kruse to Ivy league. Kyle Ready to Sag. Valley (We got 1 of 4 of these late deciding recruits).

I don't see any more h.s. kids other than possibility Bowen and Hook.

P.S. I read CMadler's latest recruiting article and he is on top of these questions.

Once we get these answers it is on to spring ball next month. 02-13-banana

Bowen and Hughes are still being listed as verballed to EMU; neither has signed to any other school.

CMadler:

There is a Rivals.Com article from 1/21/12 indicated that he had dropped his verbal to EMU after his position coach, Maddox, left.

http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/con...ID=1321275

Is that the real reason? Who knows.

He is now looking at FCS schools like S. Il, W. IL, S. Dakota, N. Dakota State, etc. plus Hawaii.

I assume Darius Jackson has his scholarship.

Is Oliver Holbrook our 25th scholarship recruit?

http://highschoolsports.mlive.com/news/a...-michigan/

"HOLBROOK SIGNS WITH EASTERN MICHIGAN FOR FOOTBALL: It was a special birthday party for West Michigan Lutheran Christian senior Oliver Holbrook on Wednesday.

Along with celebrating his 17th birthday, the 6-foot-4, 255-pound Holbrook became the first Lutheran Christian athlete to sign a Division 1 scholarship..."

If my 'recruiting targets list would have been a little longer, I would have ...' 03-lmfao

I'd been more likely to guess the power ball lottery then guess him.

I'd be surprised if he is on scholarship and not a preferred walk-on.

Why was he not included yesterday. The walk-ons were not included in any press release.

I'd like to know more... and hope EMU releases info on him if he is on scholarship.

RE: Recruiting 2012 - The Day After
BTW, someone PM me about the '28' number.

Twenty Eight is a 'hard cap' on the number of signees who POTENTIALLY count against the '12 limit of 25.

This was done to prevent schools from doing 28+ LOIs (some schools were going over 30 knowing that some will not be eligible. It was an abuse and caused problems if the signees became eligible - then signees had to be talked into a grey shirt or something else like 'failure to be admitted'.).

How to get from 28 to 25?

Some might not become academically eligible. Some might not enroll. Some may agree to grey shirt.

Do remember IF EMU is able to 'count' Lisner and Maughmer BACK to '11 then we could go above 25.

Our final number of AVAILABLE scholarships could be 25, 26, or maybe even 27 depending how many UNUSED from last February.

I believe Devin Henderson (who English confirmed is in school this semester paying his own way) can be on scholarship next year using his NLI signed last Feb.

Does anyone know if Dominique White has been awarded a scholarship? I would say he earned one after last season. Pretty sure it would not 'count' in this conversation anyway.

Who will become the LB'er coach for us now? Anyone in-house? Why would he walk away from a group of LB'er kids like this? It is not like Syracuse is a powerhouse football team.

Dear NUPudge,
It's like anything else in college football. Coach Morrison probably looks at the Syracuse job as a bigger program, and probably more money. I would agree with you though, Syracuse has not had a very good program for several years now, and I don't know if they are out of the woods yet. Time will tell. I just hope Eastern can hire a good replacement that will keep the linebackers kicking butt.

There is an old axiom in life: "I'd rather by lucky than good..."

Who ever gets the LB job will be lucky. Ton of talent to work with.

I would assume that is the reason we didn't announce Bowen and Hook (need to be late qualifiers).

Once again it is a numbers game.

What ever number of scholarships English has left say a couple, then does he save them for Bowen and Hook OR going finishing for late signees?

What happens if he signs one or two more and THEN Bowen or Hook make it...

Once again the number of kids who want to come here but missed on grades/test scores is amazing.

I don't know the specifics on the test score recruits, but some times students get better on tests with some experience.

First time might be a tough experience.

David Goricki's article for the Detroit News.

There is a reference to 'turning recruits down' and numbers issue.

What I think English is getting at is numbers at CERTAIN POSITIONS.

E.g., I just don't see how EMU could have taken another RB, i.e., Brandon Wilson (Louisiana) and still take Darius Jackson.

Ditto for another LB given the numbers at that position. Ditto for WR and TE.

I learned that Donte Bowen will go prep school.

I don't know what the story is with Kyle Hughes (this is the caveat), but Bowen is the only verbal who did not make it.

English had say 21 verbals a week ago and 20 signed.

NONE were lost to B1G or some other school who had committed.

RE: Recruiting 2012 - The Day After
Dear emu steve,
You hit the nail on the head with your comment of preferred walk-on. When Eastern can pick up players as walk-ons, I think they have truly turned the corner in recruiting. Players who are willing to come to Eastern with only that, speaks volumes about Coach English and his staff. He has also had the support of President Martin, which he has mentioned many times.
Right now, I am getting the same feeling I had when President Sponberg had the reins of Eastern, and wanted success in athletics, as well as the classroom.
