The article is encouraging. Seems he reallys cares about athletics. As far as the dome repair goes, that is about 10 years late. The roof has been leaking for a LONG time.

Noland, "we'll look at football". The part about looking at the entire athletic department could prove UGLY if he looks objectively.

Also he's talking Convocation Center, a place where ONE graduation can be held. So, looks like he's not interested in fixing the fire marshal issue - instead, build a new place. I like his reasoning. Go to Nashville with the argument that ETSU is the only TBR school without an up-to-fire-code facility that can host ONE graduation along with other university needs. Of course, the Bucs could play a little basketball in the place as well.

It looks like we now have a President who is not proud of the status quo. How refreshing.

Roof was leaking in 1980, maybe before.

RE: 4 million-dollar roof repair for the dome
If they spend $4 million on roof repairs without doing anything about the 6,000 empty seats . . . .

By the way, seems like a steep price to pay for a place that a few years ago the Johnson City Press reported was looking to be razed in 2014.

Anyone else remember that?

I read this artlcle in the Press this morning, but the last few paragraphs (which are very important in my opinion) were not in the print edition. Why would that be? Sincere question.

Back in the Seventies before the Dome was even opened the entire roof had to be replaced from scratch. Officials did not sign off on the building and made the builder replace the roof but it delayed the opening of the Dome for quite some time. I remember them using helicoptors to lift the roofing material up. Dome got off to a very bad start.

Need to clean house Dr. Noland. This is embarrassingly bad and has been for a long time. Add in a lack of ETSU pride among both the student body and community.

RE: 4 million-dollar roof repair for the dome
This guy really seems to be refreshing. My only critique at all might be spending the 4 million on the roof repairs. If it is possible to get by for a few more years without spending this money, we can put it towards the arena. Having said that, I do not know how bad of shape the roof is in and the repairs might be needed. I just hate to spend any money that could be used on an arena if it is not absolutely needed.

Overall, he is getting some help from the legislature regarding the salaries (though 2.5% raise is not nearly enough), he is trying his best to address the performing arts center, and he is also thinking about athletics. Seems to be covering all of the immediate issues.

You should probably throw me off the board for this, but I can't help writing it. That roof has been leaking for 30 years. I can remember garbage cans set around to catch the water back in the late 80s. They kept trying ways to fix it. One suggetion was to put a rubber membrane over it. Then we could call it the Condome.
