HW: Recruiting in the digital age
http://www.huskiewire.com/articles/2012/.../index.xml

Read the whole thing but a big point here for us...

Fans aren’t allowed to use a trademarked name to try to persuade a recruit.

“The minute that they use our trademarked name and logo, we have to issue a cease-and-desist letter,” said NIU associate athletic director Christian Spears, who oversees NIU’s compliance unit.

“If in fact a fan did something or a booster did something, we would just disassociate them from the program. They would not be eligible to participate in anything intercollegiate athletically related.”

Actually, I came away with the distinct sense that we aren't to contact recruits at all.

Which is fine, because reaching out to 17 and 18 year olds you don't know is just creepy when you aren't a coach.

I was thinking it was more common with current students.

Apparently, these may be produced but not marketed to the public.

My favorite quote in the article?

"And in many cases, the benefits outweigh the positives."

You talk about a win-win!
