Love this quote from the article!

"The inexact science of predicting college success through recruiting helps explain why Northern Illinois managed to win the league title in 2011 with a foundation built on classes ranked near the bottom of the MAC from 2007-09."

Things that Rivals and Scout can not measure are CHARACTER and the LOVE of the game. It is NOT easy being a D1 fb player, very demanding. If the young man does not have the "right" stuff,, he will not have fun and his development will be stopped.

RE: Recruiting rankings article
Clawson loves to state indirectly that UT's recruiting classes don't hold-up after the fall due to qualifying problems but that is simply not true. All but one of UT's 2011 class are on campus and in school except one (Gilbert @ GRCC). That means UT expects all highly rated players like Sturdivant, Russell, Neal, etc. to play next year.

The fact of the matter is that BGSU has struggled even worse than UT relative to keeping players in school or having them even set foot on campus. Beckman's first recruiting class in 2009 is virtually intact and will form the core of next years team. The 2008 class (last by Amstutz) finished this year with 16 of 22 still in the program and virtually all graduating. I think the article stated that BGSU's 2008 class was by all measure a complete disaster.

Clawson is trying hard to downgrade UT but he has very little ammunition or verifiable facts in his favor.

Dumb Azzes from the Blade fail to mention the reason for the lower rankings according to Scout was they were small classes like in 2008 when the size of the class according to Scout was 13. 2009 NIU had 5 MAC teams below them including Toledo who was in the bottom 3. 2007 and 2008 UT had mediocre recruiting classes.

Which is what we all know, any recruiting rankings that depend at all on the size of the class are a joke.
