Appalachian St. to CUSA?
From ESPN's recruiting thread on Appalachian St.

Quote:Wide receiver Malachi Jones (Lawrenceville, Ga./Central Gwinnett) put up some monster numbers as a senior and grabbed the attention of a few schools. One was Appalachian State, which he visited this weekend.

"He committed to Appalachian State this morning," said Todd Wofford, Central Gwinnett's coach. "They are moving to Conference USA in two seasons, and he wanted to be a part of that. He loves their facilities, the guys on the team and the stadium. He likes how they spread the ball out and says he can come in a make an immediate impact."

Hmm, I'd like to call BS but I can't help but think of how Donnie Jones was telling recruits that UCF was going to be in the Big East soon.

Beat me to it. A very well connected source reporting on ASU's Rivals site said Malachi isn't the first ASU recruit to mention this. ASU made some major changes to our staff this past few weeks bringing in several coaches with FBS experience. In a Charlotte Observers story today, AD Charlie Cobb said he hopes to have a better sense of where the football program will land in the next three to six months as it contemplates a move up from its place in the Football Championship Series. It is possible Appalachian State will jump up a level to play what was formerly called Division I-A football. The school's board of trustees endorsed a plan to allow the football feasibility committee to consider what options are available should Appalachian State decide to move up to the highest level of college football. Cobb said, "What we will see in the next couple of months is where the next five or 10 years of Appalachian State football will go." We live in interesting times.

If I were a coach, I would tell recruits the same exact thing.

Great addition. Will help strenghthen the ECU- App State rivalry. Will give them a good regional game which is what the East needs.

Could mean you move into the Suck Belt conference, but not necessarily a guarantee that C-USA is the destination. Maybe the coach was told that one OR the other was possible.

Maybe not last year, but they have in the past, I'm pretty sure. Why would they join now?

It was posted in one of Brett McMurphy articles last fall during all the expansion craziness. That was the first time I had seen it written in ink.

He should've said they were joining the SEC. That would help with recruiting even more. If you're going to lie, lie big.

I don't think the alliance has even decided on who they will add yet, so this just sounds like coaches throwing stuff out there to sway recruits.

RE: Appalachian St. to CUSA?
I could maybe see Temple in as FB only. There's no way they leave A10 basketball for all the added travel expense and marginal difference in CUSA.

call it a football decision...

CUSA football > MAC football

CUSA $$$ > MAC/A10 $$$

they can still play A10 teams OOC.

i believe Temple was considered when New CUSA was formed...but the final teams came down to La Tech, UNT, and UTEP...UTEP got the nod.
