P.S. the PSU case as bad as it is, is NOT about 'unfair advantage' which is what the NCAA is essentially about. By unfair advantage: paying recruits, other recruiting violations, academic fraud, practice time violations (see EMU women under deposed coach Gilbert), etc.

These are things which give one school an 'unfair advantage'.

There is no unfair advantage being raised in the PSU case.

Sounds mostly a criminal/civil issue which should be handled by the DA and plantiff attorneys in civil cases.

Arguably the failure to report allowed PSU to maintain staff that may have been fired or charged with crimes had they reported. The allegations of a former coach being a pedophile might have affected recruiting. Why would Paterno and others NOT report this and pursue it to the fullest unless they felt it would adversely affect the program? The coverup may have given an advantage to Penn State over a school that did the right thing, reported and faced the consequences.

Little bit of a stretch.

Granted, but again-why not do the right thing if NOT doing it isn't perceived to be advantageous?

Little bit of a stretch. Sandusky would have been replaced by another competent coordinator.

Regardless, having a pedophile on your staff affects recruiting. It is doing so right now, and that's a decade after the fact. So QED.

Dear emu steve,
It may be a stretch about recruiting advantage, (the reason for keeping the Sandusky thing under cover) but I have to agree with some of the other comments here. Here's another thought on the violation possibilities; what if the coaching staff was paid to keep all of this quiet? Regardless of the supposed way this should fit into specific NCAA regulations, I still feel they deserve the death penalty for what happened.

Knowingly using university/athletic facilities for immoral and illegal activity should cover it I think...
