DENTON, Texas - Senior Tyler Hall and the North Texas men's basketball team downed the Huston-Tillotson Rams 98-51 in the Mean Green's final exhibition of the 2011-12 season Wednesday afternoon at the Super Pit.

The 98 points scored by North Texas was the most since Feb. 15, 2010 in a 107-87 victory at Houston Baptist.

Hall paced the Mean Green (11-8, 4-2) offense with 22 points on 6-for-11 shooting while the North Texas defense held Huston-Tillotson (0-16, 0-11) to a mere 27-percent shooting from the floor.

The Mean Green jumped out to an early 4-0 lead behind two Roger Franklin lay-ups and never looked back, leading 39 of the game's 40 minutes.

After an efficient first half of play that saw only eight turnovers for the Mean Green, North Texas led 43-26.

The second half saw North Texas, who never let the Rams within 15 in the second half, tally a 17-6 run in the opening five minutes to pull away from Huston-Tilltson.

North Texas shot over 50 percent from the floor in both halves, ending with an astounding 56.1 percent shooting percentage.

Alzee Williams (19), Brandan Walton (19) and Tony Mitchell (10) joined Hall in double-figure scoring for the game

Walton led the Mean Green in rebounds with eight, edging out four other players who hauled in seven boards en route to a team total of 50.

Three North Texas players, Walton, Williams and Trey Norris, finished the game with four assists for only the second time this season

The Mean Green will be back in action Saturday night when it welcomes the Denver Pioneers to the Super Pit. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.

My initial thought was what sport is this? When was this scheduled? Was this an emergency thing considering their academic casualties? OR was this scheduled before the season knowing there might be an issue at this point in the season?

It was a previously scheduled (slated with the season schedule) noon time "Youth Day" exibition game.

How unusual is it to play an exhibition game for a Division 1 program in late January??? I've never heard of this before. Must be an extremely rare occurrance...

Again, have to wonder at the reasoning at scheduling and playing such a game two-thirds the way through the season...

Not just non-D1, a very bad, winless NAIA team.

It's an annual thing we do with the city of Denton schools. 2-3k kids come out for a noon game every year around this point in the season. We usually schedule it for a week where we don't have a weekday SBC game.
