There's improvements that can be made. He can speed up his drop back and work on his mechanics so his deep balls don't float as much.

Harnish will never be an all pro but he can be a solid number 2. Shane Matthews played in the league for christs sake. He will be better than Caleb Hanie. He is a hard nosed football player. Hell, he could be the flyer on punt coverage.

-Harnish is a solid quarterback that has plenty of starting experience and an impressive resume of production and success as the NIU signal caller. He doesn’t have great size or arm strength but he is a powerful runner who can pick up yardage with his legs. His arm strength is above average and he has above average accuracy in my opinion, but I’m not sold on him having much upside as a NFL starter. This week will be big for him because his grade seems to vary from a 4th round range all the way to a 6th round range, so having a good week in front of scouts will help him establish himself as a 4th-5th round developmental prospect. He has tools, I just don’t think there is a vast amount of improvement left for him to achieve, making me wonder how much upside is there.

Sounds like this report is trying to assign the Brady Quinn label to him.

That's ridiculous. No offense to our coaching staff, but CH hasn't realized his full potential. There is no plateau noticeable in his progression. He has improved every year, is intelligent, young, and yet to command an NFL-style offense. There is nothing to suggest that he has peaked and is incapable of continuing his progression.

That other QB from that school in Indiana, developed in an NFL offense with NFL offensive minds guiding him. He clearly peaked. To try to say the same of CH is absurd and lazy writing/scouting.

That's ridiculous. I thought the write up was spot on and objective, unlike yours. Don't get your panties in a bind just because someone says something not so nice about our QB. There is nothing lazy about the report.

Quote:The quarterbacks on the West squad were very underwhelming. Northern Illinois' Chandler Harnish has enough size (6-1 1/2) and athleticism to warrant late-round consideration, but he showed Monday why scouts have concerns about his ability to throw downfield. His passes ranging from 5-to-15 yards were sharp, but he really struggled with throws over 15 yards -- a problem most quarterbacks coming from a spread, quick-strike offense often encounter.

Tom Brady didn't exactly realize his full potential at Michigan and he doesn't have the greatest arm strength (although it's better than Chandler's). You never know. Go Chandler!!!!!!

I happen to agree with Howl-n-Prowl.

RE: Chandler at the Shrine Game
I'm not going to argue with the idea that Chandler is a middle to late round pick or that he has limitations because those things are true. But the idea that there isn't improvement he can make is just completely inaccurate. He can get noticeably better IMO, specifically with the consistency of his throwing mechanics. Not to mention the fact he got better every year he started here, so evidence suggests he can and will improve.

RE: Chandler at the Shrine Game
-I didn't get a great look at the quarterbacks, but from what I saw, none of them looked as crisp as the East squad. Chandler Harnish of Northern Illinois still stood out as the best of the bunch, but was not overly consistent on timing routes and his balls fluttered in inside deep slants. He did look composed in team drills and change vision well, but it wasn't a full pad practice and he wasn't getting a "serious" rush.

OptimumScouting Eric Galko
Talking w/someone about Chandler Harnish, agreed he made lot of sense for the Broncos as a backup to Tebow. Great running QB, decent passer.

Unconfirmed rumor: Harnish will NOT be at the Shrine Game. He's going to Toledo to be QB coach. He's also taking Barksdale with him to be their third D coordinator (guess that would make him a tri-D coordinator). Since the multiple QB approach worked well for Toledo, they decided to do the same with their coaches.

HA. I didn't realize Persa was on the squad. Has Phillips started a "Chicago's free agent QB" campaign for him?

Well-put, Diehard. I hope Harnish starts and Persa sits. Behind the Colorado QB.

Still listed as the top QB on the West, though (Looking at you, Northwestern).

I heard that he would be playing in the game, but while in the pocket he was going to be studying up on Toledo's playbook and making some calls to recruits instead of really playing for his team.
