With our coaching staff, another bowl game and successful season. We finally have coaches in place that know what it takes to win in the MAC. We can finaly beat Toledo!

I'm glad we play UMass since they're the new kid on the block and it'll be interesting to see. And if we didn't play them this year it might be 4 years before we play them.

Coach Novak blew down the Toledo door in 2005, I shall never forget that night, one of the best memories I have following Huskie football. I remember rolling back into town at 445 am but I did not care one bit!

And a long TD run by Wolfe pretty much put the last nail in the coffin, so to speak. Can't beat that.

Yea, I would rather not have an FCS team in there either.

With the large number of local FCS teams it would make sense to schedule
SIU
WIU
ISU
EIU
IN St
Northern Iowa
South Dakota
SD ST
North Dakota
ND ST

These programs are much more likely to bring a few thousand fans than a team from outside the midwest and fill up Huskie Stadium.

I would not at this moment in time presume any game in 2012 is a gimme for the Huskies.

Did we NOT learn that lssson when hosting idaho in 2010?

It was so long ago I guess we forgot :) Amazing to think NIU has not lost at home since Enderlhe brought his Vandals to Huskie Stadium

And now he's a Bear. He brought whatever respectability that Idaho has earned on the gridiron

Not claiming to be a big 10 expert here, but just doesn't seem impossible to defeat them imo

Not only do they have several holes to fill in the backfield, on Oline, an entirely new Dline, 2 new in the D backfield; they also have a new D coordinator as Norm Parker has retired. Also lost their all time leading receiver in Marvin McNutt. Do have a returning Senior starting QB (Vandenburg), NIU"s D line should have him running for his life all game.

RE: 2012 fb schedule
Athlon is just one source but they have Iowa finishing 4th in their division in 2012

4. Iowa
ey Returnees: QB James Vanderberg, WR Keenan Davis, WR Kevonte Martin-Manley, TE C.J. Fiedorowicz, OL James Ferentz, LB James Morris, LB Christian Kirksey, DB Tanner Allen, DB Micah Hyde, K Mike Meyer

Key Losses: WR Marvin McNutt, RB Marcus Coker, OL Riley Reiff, OL Markus Zusevics, DL Mike Daniels, DL Broderick Binns LB, Tyler Nielsen, CB Shaun Prater

In a league loaded with elite level dual-threat quarterbacks, James Vandenberg is easily the top returning pure passer in the Big Ten. Keenan Davis, Kevonte Martin-Manley and C.J. Fiedorowicz will have to replace the loss of record-setting wideout Marvin McNutt and troubled tailback Marcus Coker. Even with those losses, this offense has a chance to be solid if the offensive line can develop. The Hawkeyes struggled mightily to run the football or protect the quarterback in 2011, so improvement in this area will be imperative for head coach Kirk and starting center James Ferentz.

On the defensive side of the ball, Ferentz has no trouble developing linebackers and this should be the strength of the unit again. Filling holes along the defensive line in the a league that features more power rushing attacks than any other league will be key. The Hawkeyes will also have a new defensive coordinator, as veteran Norm Parker decided to retire following the 2011 season.

The rivalry game against Iowa State is always tight and has the added motivation of revenge in 2012. The cross-over schedule gives reason for optimism, however, as Iowa misses both Ohio State and Wisconsin. The Hawks face Purdue, Indiana and Penn State from the Leaders.

I would prefer to schedule FCS programs as a matter of emergency rather than routine but when NIU NEEDS to fill its schedule and the only real option is an FCS team, those listed above make sense. I would even add Missouri State to the list.

Those 3 are going to be the big play makers this year for Iowa. Davis was a 4-star recruit and has played since a true freshmen. We will need to stick Melvin on him all game. If the Vandenberg to Davis is shut down we have a great chance to win this game.
