Quote:Georgetown was in fine shape for an at-large bid, even with that midweek loss at Notre Dame, until losing Sunday at St. John's. The Hoyas (16-8, 8-5) remain ahead of West Virginia (16-8, 6-7), but the gap is closing. Head-to-head, yes, Georgetown won -- but it was close, and it was at Georgetown. That one game won't mean as much to the selection committee as how both teams finish, so finish strong, Hoyas -- the Mountaineers are. They won at St. John's last week, then smacked Seton Hall on Sunday. And as far as their non-conference resumes go, it's not close. West Virginia has beaten LSU, George Washington and N.C. State. Georgetown's best non-conference victories are against Davidson, Penn State and Clemson.
-- This quote appeared in CBSsportsline today...and although I'm sure this doesn't seem at all impressive to the Louisville, UC and Syracuse fans on the board...WVU basketball has come a long way in three years under John Beilien...to sneak in the tourney would be huge

If the ESPN talking heads can actually refer to a mediocre VT team whose RPI is in the 100s and who has three terrible losses this season as a bubble team, I don't see why both GT and WVU shouldn't make the tournament - bringing the number of BE teams to 8.
Cheers,
Neil

-- 8 BE teams getting in sounds good to me Neil.....as for VT....the talking heads have to explain Duke's loss in some way and it is hard for most of them to admit that the BE is going to get more teams in big dance....that's probably the dual reason for the VTs "bubble status"
