What was the over/under on the number of times Brent Musberger used the phrase, "the grandaddy of them all..."

My ACC/ESPN conspiracy theory doesn't sound so crazy now does it? 05-stirthepot

Answer: Not enough.....you can't beat that setting, in that stadium and the history of the Rose Bowl Game...because each and every year...is the most popular bowl game outside the BCS Championship Game (sometimes, and not by much).

It really is "the grandaddy of them all..."

Try as he is may Brent Musberger is no Keith Jackson. It was Keith who was the voice of The Rose Bowl. He is the one that first called The Rose Bowl, "The GrandDaddy of Them All."

I had forgotten about Enberg. He is / was a great announcer. He got his start here in Indiana doing IU football and basketball.

I love both Keith Jackson and Dick Enberg. We unfortunately won't see many of their kind anymore, as most announcers are trained to be interchangeable robots these days. Gus Johnson is an obvious exception, but he's at such a high decibel level constantly that he loses the nuance that a guy like Enberg brought to the table.

I basically agree, but I think there are still some good ones:

Mike Patrick (even though I hate how it runs down his and Vitale's legs over the ACC)
Verne Lundquist
Sean McDonough

I'm with Frank the Tank on Gus Johnson, but I actually like when he gets excited about a big play. Does he get a little over the top at times? Of course, but that's why I like him, as strange as it sounds. I also like Brad Nessler.

So I am I the only one who still like Musberger?

Also, don't the on-air people usually choose the MVP? I know the TV people seem to choose the SB MVP, and NBA Finals MVP.

Super Bowl MVP is determined by fan votes via cell phone...I think. I know it's determined by fan votes; I'm just not exactly sure on the method said fan votes are sent in. I'm not sure about the NBA Finals MVP.

Musburger is actually alright with me. He does have a "big game" voice and I appreciate his frequent drinking and gambling line references. I still think of him more as the CBS/NFL Today guy since I grew up in the 80s.

-I get the MLB Extra Innings cable package, and make a point of watching Padre games so I can listen to Enberg.

-Whatever happened to Phyllis George and Jane Kennedy? 02-13-banana

Yeah have to agree with that.

I was listening to Hawkins and Arute today on College Sports Radio today, and Dan Hawkins had me rolling doing his Frank Broyles impression (and I do a good one)..........Kieth you can't coach speed, he runs a 9.5 hundred.
I am 47 now but when I could watch a Broyles/Keith Jackson game, back in the day, it was a treat.
