First Recruiting Weekend in January?
isn't this weekend. 03-lmfao Otherwise recruits across America would be taking an official visit to UNLV. 02-13-banana

I assume that next weekend will not be a big weekend for us.

Anyone know?

I assume the big weekend will be January 13.

It should be 'make or break' with a lot of top prospects who are undecided and ready to make a decision one way or another.

By then the cake should be pretty much baked and just need the frosting.

I believe there is one more weekend (Jan 20) after that it would be a 'scramble' weekend as players and schools scramble to complete their recruiting.

I believe that last weekend in January is quiet where everyone just catches their breath.

(Even though the Rivals.Com numbers are terribly accurate, they list almost 700 players with 2 or more stars as being UNCOMMITTED).

Which means there is a big scramble still going on.

Yes it is February 1st and I will be watching...

I heard that we have between 15 - 18 recruits coming in this weekend for visits...

Lets keep a eye opened for the JUCO recruits and who's signup for the start of classes in January, there is a 2 week window for them starting January 9th. This will be very interesting to say the least.

Not to sound like my buddy Emusteve, but everyone should be careful with comments we place on our thread so not to discourage recruits.

Scout.com had him picking up a late offer from N. Mexico State.

He was to visit NMSU between his visit to EMU and Howard.

I don't view this as a big recruiting loss when his other offers were from Howard and NMSU.

RE: First Recruiting Weekend in January?
He and has teammate, Ziam Jones, had abilities to play right away as JUCO transfers. Laudermill would have been a mid-year signee.

I have no basis to determine how much of a loss this is to EMU without knowing how the rest of the DL recruiting class ends up February 1.

I'd guess there are still a number of h.s. senior DLs in play (Stephon Hall being mentioned by another poster) which could mitigate the loss of these two JUCOs.

I expect the DL recruiting class to be solid.

As Laudermill is a mid-year eligible JUCO transfer his recruit status would end the moment he signs the national LOI (which he can do now).

IF he hasn't signed yet, English can try to talk him out of verbal.

I've believed that Laudermill and Jones were a package deal.

I have NO idea if English has some other targets in mind to replace these two. 03-shhhh

As EagleSam indicated Stephon Hall is a top target and I wouldn't be surprised if they have a short list of say 6 targets.

There is a good kid from Florida who is to visit 1/13.

I assume everything is up in the air...

He had more offers than Howard and NMSU.

Those were his visits. He supposedly had a half dozen other offers.

Why we needed him:

Looks like we are getting some high school DTs, but we need some JUCO DTs who can join Kashama, McFarlane, Grimes (?), etc. and play in '12.

Maughmer is certainly a big hope.

I had hoped for a rotation of Kashama, Laudermill, McFarlane and Maughmer. (4 DTs who can play). Normally h.s. DTs redshirt unless they are a shock like Kent's Roosevelt Nix.

I believe we are recruiting well for the long term, but we need to be solid in '12 and '13.

I'm sure NuPudge would agree that DT might be the toughest position to recruit at the MAC level (also QB, but the MAC seems to do well at QB).

Anyone notice what the scores of MAC games have been like? FB on grass... Lot of it is the DL.

RE: First Recruiting Weekend in January?
Was there any possibility of Grimes getting a redshirt? I don't think he played at all last year as a senior. Not sure what kind of player he is, but it's depth at least.

I have him 'penciled in' as a medical redshirt, but quite frankly I've heard nothing on him.

Or maybe a regular redshirt?
