SDSU has no history of football success, absolutely none. You are known for exactly one thing, hosting marshall faulk in the early 90s.
Pitt, Syracuse, and WVU all do.

Don Coryell would disagree but SDSU isn't the topic of discussion here now is it?

No football history for the Aztecs? Have you ever heard of Don Coryell and what he did here when the Aztecs went D1?

How about Claude Gilbert that replaced Don Coryell?

Did you know there are about 8 or so NFL coaches that spent time at SDSU?

Do you know how many pros San Diego State has put in the NFL since they became D1?

Coryell record in 12 years as Aztecs head football coach...

104-14-2 (You ever hear of Joe Gibbs and John Madden. The coached under Coryell in this period)

Claude Gilbert as Aztec head football coach following Coryell...

61-26-2 in the following 7 years after Coryell.

Aztecs football record for 19 straight years...165-40-4.

No History?

Coryell left San Diego State around 1972.

While that may be back a while, the person above posted this...

BEast 10 (unless we actually end up with 10 teams).

Come on. Coaches circulate widely, by that standard every program that has been around for a long time has a history. Bottom line is you guys have one legit IA bowl win, thats not much history.

Quo shoots from the hip and uses his "opinons" and "subjective thought" on things rather than things like facts....case in point. He thinks losing Pitt/Cuse/WVA is like losing Ohio State, USC, and Bama. Never mind 2 of the 3 havn't done dick in forever on the grid iron. His "perception" is they are bigger than they really are. Nevermind we were called the Big Least WITH those three schools. That's all he needs...his perception and his keyboard.

LOL ... talk about shooting from the hip. Ive always described pitt, syr, and wvu as second-tier brand names, not first-tier like USC, etc. ... But the point is that even though they are second tier, they were the most prominent football names we had. Losing them and replacing them with lower-tier programs is a big step down and as you note, we were already at the bottom of the major conference pecking order.

RE: New Big East: Why Nabisco might hold the key
In every raid, the perception of The BEast has taken a hit. The BEast leadership got blindsided both times. MT in the first raid. In this latest raid, they caught Marinatto on camera, looking dumbfounded and lost just prior to the WVU-UMD game, when he heard about Pitt and Syracuse heading to the ACC. The leadership of The BEast has looked stupid both times. That certainly doesn't help...

In each raid, The BEast lost major eastern AQ football powers, and replaced them with teams from non-AQ conferences. The national perception of The BEast dropped with each raid. That didn't help perception-wise. Although it did work out on the field...

After each raid there is talk of removing The BEast's AQ status. WVU and Louisville prevented that from happening the last time. UC tried to do the same later on. But 2 losses in BCS bowl games hurt our perception again. With WVU leaving, somebody else will have to step up now, or schools could have moved to The BEast for a reason that no longer exists by the time they start BEast conference play...

Correct, history is history. All but about 5 years of that 19 years were D1.

It doesn't really matter who we played (although we beat a few Top 20 teams in those days and easily and UCLA/USC avoided us like the plauge). When you talk about Aztec football history, you can't ignore 165-40-2 over a 19 year period. THAT is football History.

Yes, and this is the fundamental fact that the cheerleaders for the "New Big East" keep forgetting or are willfully blind too.

No amount of hand-waving can dull the fact that picking up Houston, SMU, Boise, SDSU, and UCF doesn't come close to making up for losing WVU, Syracuse, and Pitt from a national-perception perspective, in either basketball or football. Make no mistake, this latest shift in membership was a disaster for the Big East.

And the thing is, our national rep as a major conference was already about rock-bottom before it happened.

I wouldn't say they are willfully blind to anything. I'd say it was school pride that makes them hope they can pull off another miracle for The BEast. After all, UC, UofL, and USF helped The BEast's perception more so than Pitt, Rutgers and Syracuse. Nobody would have predicted that in 2004...

Pac Tin, I like it.

Hey, a fair question would be what team in the nation has went 160-40-2 in D1 with ANY schedule. There couldn't be more than a handful.

I understand it was a long time ago, but that record is impressive at any level of football, and expecially at any level of D1 football.

So is Boise's record over the last decade invalid since they did a majority of the damage in a ****** WAC?
