Playing the entire game as Big Ben is being rested because of injury.

Doing a very nice job managing the offense and some of his passing has been crisp.

Go Charlie! 04-bow

Dear Friends,
I always thought Charlie got a raw deal in Detroit when Matt Millen took over, and has almost been an after thought even at Pittsburgh. The last few years there, with Pittsburgh putting other quarterbacks on the roster ahead of him, yet when the going got tough here and there, always counting on Charlie to bail them out. I just wish he was able to be a starter. He would have been darn good, and I think he is just as good as Roethlisberger, maybe better.

Sure he got a raw deal when the Millen wrecking crew got to work, but Charlie has been injury prone since his EMU days. I believe that would have held him back no matter what. As it is, he's hung on longer than just about anyone would have thought.

"Charlie Batch doesn't know how many more games are left in his 37-year-old legs. Given the way the 11-year veteran quarterbacked Pittsburgh in its ridiculously easy 27-0 victory over lifeless St. Louis on Saturday, it may be more than he thinks. With the home crowd chanting the name of the Pittsburgh area native throughout, Batch played efficiently if not spectacularly while subbing for the injured Ben Roethlisberger. He passed for 208 yards to help the Steelers keep their hopes for an AFC North title alive."

MUNHALL, Pa. -- Shortly after helping the Steelers to a 27-0 win over the St. Louis Rams, Charlie Batch headed out to the streets of Munhall to play Santa.
Batch continued the season of giving by delivering Chirstmas presents to 25 families.

You too would be "injury prone" if you had no running game and a very porous Oline! I have been at every EMU home game for 16 years this the first year that I can truely say we had at a good running game to keep the defense honest. When Charley was here HE was the running game yes he got banged up A LOT!

Superfan, sometimes I swear you're from a different EMU.
- Charlie had no running game? Is this the guy that had Barry Sanders and the Pittsburgh Steelers running game? He still managed to get injured.
- First good EMU running game in 16 years? We had some fine running teams with Anthony Sherrill and Ime Akpan. Sherrill ran for 1500 and Akpan for 1200.
- Charlie Batch was THE running game. Nonsense. It is clearly not his strength.
- "injury prone" Batch has a list of injuries that rivals any other list, many of his coming without being hit. His worst injury with the Lions was when he tripped during practice and took the top of his tibia off. Another time he broke his thumb when he hit someone else's helmet. If Charlie Batch isn't injury prone, then nobody is.

Yep, I remember Batch broke his leg in June one year with the Lions. He was in shorts and t-shirt going through passing drills. Talk about the original china doll. All that said, he is a hell of a guy and a very smart and reliable backup QB. I'd love to see him on the EMU staff after his NFL career is over.

Maybe he can come back to EMU and run the offense (OC) as a starter.

I could definitely see him as passing game quality control/QB coach and then offensive coordinator. I bet he'd be a helluva recruitor too. Western Pennsylvania is some fertile recruiting territory!

You are the one from a different world, Barry left training the year Charlie was drafted! Not while Charlie was here. And how do you suppose he got hurt? Sitting in the pocket? And you say you know football? I bet you hardly watch it.

Actually Barry's final year was Charlie's rookie year. Charlie replaced Scott Mitchell after 2 games that year. I think Charlie got hurt late in the season though (back?).

And Charlie has two more Super Bowl rings than Millen or Morninweg since then!!!

2 in the last 16 years isn't much of a running game also I was talking about when he was here. The Lions offense was built around Barry and his running game and not protecting the passer.
