And if LTU were to be the flagship, why wasn't it named the Louisiana Tech System? The only things LTU has on UL is that it's 4 years older, and people know the sports programs better.

UL's enrollment is 17K, LTU's is 9K.

UL's research funding is $68M, LTU's is $18M.

UL's Foundation is $150M, LTU's is about $60M. (That may be off, the numbers are from before the recession and everyone has lost money.)

UL has doctoral programs in sciences, liberal Arts, engineering, education, nursing. LTU's are all in engineering, business, & education-- nothing in pure science or the liberal arts.

UL's library holdings are twice that of LTU's; microform holdings are quadruple that of LTU.

UL has 5 research parks, LTU has none but are building their first.

UL is in the middle of a rapidly growing region, in a city that constantly makes national lists for innovation and quality of life. LTU is in the middle of nowhere.

PS UL achieved university status in 1960, LTU not until 1970.

As I mentioned earlier, UL was a charter member of Division 1A, when it was created in 1982. LTU moved up from 1AA in 1990.

What is UL? Are you referring to THE University of Louisiana? Because if you are... none of those facts are correct about the REAL UL.

Go back and read my earlier post. We cleared it with the TU admin before we went for the name change. You guys abandoned all rights to the name when you said we could have it.

You guys act like kids trading marbles. The rights to a PUBLIC university in Louisiana referring to themselves as the University of Louisiana belongs to the people and their legislative bodies. The people and legislature decided they would not instill that designation to any ONE school but allow its use by members of the system ONLY if they used the city name. Tulane can use University of Louisiana if they want because they ARE A PRIVATE SCHOOL. ULL is a public school thus their administration must follow the wishes of the people although their FANS can use any term they want.
