Whatever Pastner is doing, it ain't working. If it wasn't for W Barton carrying the whole team on his back, we wouldn't even be competitive. He is the only player that has gotten better this year. Everyone else has gotten worse. EVERYONE.

I wish Pastner would just use the pine as discipline, he doesn't have to berate or cuss, just bench them. Playing time is the most important thing to a player, that's why even cussing/berating doesn't get through to some knuckleheads.

Does anyone know how long he cussed out Will Barton before he started playing insanely great? Because THAT is what he needs to do to the rest of them.

I've coached athletes to 4 national championships in 3 different sports. In some instances I have dropped the hammer on players in other instances I've had to coddle a player because that is what got the best out of them. You have to be able to figure out what pushes a particular player's button. I do know this for a fact. Whatever you do, it MUST be genuine. Nobody respects a fake. I do wish JP would be more willing to make his point with the bench but that would mean even more losing early in a season to win later in the season and most of you guys would go even more nuts than you already are.

my 2 cents, you don't have to cuss but you have to actually coach the players. Saying "you can't get blocked there, we need points" and "play tougher" is meaningless. How do I avoid getting blocked coach? What is tougher? Does it mean playing tight D 40 feet from the bucket and picking up a foul? More rebounding? Trying to dunk it on the inside?

He said something to Adonis about "I love you when you jump stop..."

I don't know if that's what the op was supposed to be or if that was something else, but it was about loving the player's game and was a specific instruction to make use of a particularly effective part of his game.

other times he was telling guys things like to watch for a long rebound in a certain situation, get hands up on an inbounds play, etc.

He specifically told Joe "don't play around with him, just go by him" and Joe got a lot of baskets and free throws by doing just that.

as for not getting blocked or what it means to play tougher, I don't suppose any of what he meant by that could have been covered in practices, and it's a shorthand reminder to do things the way we've talked about. Joe knows how to not get blocked. That may have come after a play where he tried to get contact but had another player open on the break. In that context "don't get blocked there, we need the points" would make a lot of sense and not need clarification.

If I had to guess, I would say "play harder" means stay in front of your man on defense, and do everything crisp and on time and focused on offense. All of that stuff takes effort, and when you see offense stagnating and defense getting blown by on a D1 team, they know what to do, just have to play harder. That was actually much less of a problem tonight.

I am sure that when he told Stan to "just dominate" he wasn't trying to instruct skill sets, he was just trying to get the most out of him.

Obviously they aren't going to play any of the more detailed stuff from the huddle, so what we heard was all quick clips from during free throws, or sending guys in or out of the game. I don't think it's fair to assume that's the only type of communication that goes on.
