This thread is actually funny and I have found it entertaining. USM plays both ULL and ULM and out of respect for b oth we will refer to them as UL Monroe, ULM, UL Lafayette, or ULL. Both sides should be happy that we respect them both. It isnt illegal for either to call themselves "Louisiana". The law only states that if either use University of Louisiana that it must be followed by the city name. So, its alright to be Louisiana. What would really be funny is for somewhere down the road ULM, playing at Cajun Field, ran out of the dressing room with "Louisiana" on their uniforms. Perfectly legal, no school can patent or trademark the state name.

You are right. ULM can put Louisiana. They have.
It's funny no complained about them doing it.
I'll tell you why no one complained: Because everyone here knows they aren't a threat to be THE University of Louisiana.

No one can be a threat to The University of Louisiana because that entity does not exist, cant threaten something that isnt there. I cant degrade or threaten the University of the World because there isnt one of them either. From what I read it doesnt seem that anyone is objecting to the use of Louisana, only complaint is against using UL or University of Louisiana without the required city designation. Also, for everyones information, it isnt against the law for ANY citizen to call them whatever comes to mind. The law only applies to officials or official acts by THE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION.. They are the ones by law that must use the city designation if using University of Louisiana in any and all transactions and from what I know they have complied. If THEY, the adm, uses just UL or University of Louisiana then anyone, if they cared, could SUE. ULL posters here have invited others to sue or take it to court but the actual law has not been broken. Its broken only if the school, its officials, legal reps, etc do not use the city tag. Gneral public and newspring can use whatever names they want.

So what you are saying is that if every Cajun fan on this site referred to our school as Louisiana Ragin Cajuns and only that, no one would try to correct us by saying Lafayette should be added?!?!
