It's obvious that several of you as well as our
coaches think highly of Ben Dillard's talents, so I'm going to really begin to focus on him a little more and see what it is that you all are seeing.
That's one of the problems of not being able to watch a few practices.
That's how I discovered Matt Mouzy's talent in shooting the basketball. But when you only see the games, you're really into the game and not watching one player closely.
I know Ben comes from good basketball bloodlines and had a very nice high school career, so I'm looking forward to seeing him progress this season. He's a very strong looking young man for a Freshman, so that should help him adjust to D1 ball. Let's hope he has a breakout game tonight. I'd like to see him get to shoot the ball more. It's difficult to judge a shooter when he takes one shot a game.

One thing to watch for tonight.
This team hasn't shown the ability to shoot the three ball, but several have shown the somewhat lost ability to penetrate into the lane and pull up and hit the 15 foot jumper. Dre and Reggie Fondren have both done some of that, and I seem to recall Taggart shooting a short jumper at least once last game.
Seems like our MO has always been to keep driving to the basket, trying to draw a foul, even though there might be three trees blocking your way, rather than pull up and take the open jumper. I know the strategy is to draw a foul, but over the past few years that strategy has not been very successful in producing winning result. I'll take a 2 point or three point shot over a one anyday. Of course if a big man takes a shot around the basket and can draw fouls that's good, assuming he can make the free throws, but I prefer kids trying to make a field goal than attempting to draw a foul. But that's just me. I hate seeing players standing at the foul line all night instead of playing the game on the floor. And it puts too much control of the game in the hands of the officials, and when you see one team shoot twice as many foul shots as the other, it's very frustrating when you're the team shooting fewer free throws. Now I know someone is going to say that if you don't like that rule, don't foul as much as the other team. O.K. I've said it for you.
