That's probably the best thing the Big East can do. Pitino has been aching for an increase in basketball strength, and frankly there are no more western programs that will bring anything of note to the league's perception, visibility, competitiveness, or a new TV contract. I say bring in Temple and Memphis for all-sports in the East, let L'Ville and Cincy move to the West, and i'd say that's a damn good looking 12 team conference. More importantly, Big East basketball keeps at least a good amount of the strength taken away with Pitt, SU, and WVU, while regaining a critical Northeastern market in Philadelphia. This makes so much sense...... it might not happen lol.

In that instance i'd say let Memphis and UofL be the two west teams. Keep Cincy in the east to keep the FB power balanced. Also Navy IS coming in so we only need one more team. Memphis or Temple.

Might be news to Chet Gladchuck.

If they do, it is 2015 at the earliest. They seem pretty ambivalent at this point. But you may have a better news source on this than we do here in Naptown.

By the way, Navy likes being Independent, though San Diego State probably helps get them in the fold. Navy uses football as a way to help recruit midshipmen, advertise the branch around the nation, and boost morale. For the latter point, games near naval facilities are a positive. So look near their larger bases, and pick games where sailors/marines can attend. San Diego fits that.

That's among the reasons they scheduled ECU. Doesn't hurt that ECU brings 10,000 fans to Annapolis either.

Just so happens that there us a Naval Base on the outskirts of Memphis (Millington, TN).

UNLV? Who cares what they want. That's like my ex-girlfriend making demands. Didn't I stop returning your calls two years ago!

I agree UofL is at the door with their bags packed. The only 2 teams that may stop them from leaving are "available" are BYU and ND. Obviously no chance. UofL (along with BYU & ND) are the best that are left for the power conferences to pick off.

If I had my druthers, maybe a Nevada or I would like Fresno. I would also like Memphis if they do a 180* and start really pushing FB to BE status. Or maybe a ECU (FB only).

(2) A great deal of commitment has been made to Memphis football since West was fired: including new artificial turf practice field, new $3 million football weight room, new recruiting lounge, stadium upgrades and renovations, new $multi-million "Tiger Lane" tailgate area, increased budget for coaching salaries, new trophy room and additional $10 miilion currently being raised for a 100 yard indoor practice facility, etc.. Memphis football will rise again.

Sounds good. Win a few CUSA titles and see you in 5 years when the BE replaces UofL.

The big East is going to need to find another team in the West to us as a travel partner for Boise and for SDSU. I could see them taking Colorado State or even Nevada. They can also use an east team as well to balance things out. I like the idea of Villanova but I am not sure that's going to work. Maybe someone from C-USA, a Marshall or an ECU would be best!!!

No Nova.

I honestly think adding Temple, ECU for all sports with Fresno and Nevada for football only would be a great pickup. The Big America it is.

Reality check:
Air Force Academy Lt. Gen. M. Gould: "AS FOR NOW", we are all in with the Mountain West Conference!"
AFA and Navy will join BE Conference by 2015 season.

EAST: UConn, Rutgers, USF, Cincinnati, Louisville, Navy
WEST: BSU. SDSU, SMU, Houston, UCF, AFA

Army and Temple will ABSOLUTELY be next expansion invitees!
Villanova and Memphis are further down the road if needed.
Wouldn't be surprised to see Memphis added as basketball only.

ECU, SM, Tulsa, etc, are all quality football programs but.........................
No market = no money = no play in BE!
It stinks but that is the legacy of the NCAA brain trust!!

You don't draw flies at Cincinnati. There should be at least some proof
of having a market beside living in one to no avail.
ECU is the only team in this whole equation that has shown any proven market. I don't see the NFL stadiums inviting Big East teams for TV games against the ACC and SEC except those they played against ECU with rare exception. If you had so much market, you'd be invited to do so a lot more often but again, you don't draw flies.
Market is as market does. If your market supported you, you'd have a full stadium every game in a dinky stadium like that in a so called big market. So where are they? And where is Houston's or SMU's or Syracuses'? ECU outdraws all of you chaps. UConn and UCF too.
It's not that ECU has no market it's that the Big East has no guts.
So they make up excuses to avoid what would happen if ECU were in there.
Before this is all said and done ECU will make it a point to stomp Cincinnati's butt for a 13th time in case 12-5 isn't enough.
You will soon find out who has a market and who doesn't.
And that goes for the rest of you too.
This website has been used to falsely smear ECU for almost a decade.
You're going to pay for that in the end.

RE: Big East Expansion Aint Over Yet !
Once the bowls are over in January, you'll see more expansion, and I don't think we'll see any more programs exiting the Big East for awhile. As of Wednesday, with the official admittance of five new members, the exit penalties drastically increased to the nation's stiffest. Including a $10-million fee, forfeiture of television revenues during exit (27-month notification/wait) - neither the ACC (espn) nor Big 12 (fox/espn) television payouts (both $155-million/year, signed in the spring) are big enough to cover those losses. Plus, the Big East was offered an all-sport exclusive ESPN deal of $130-million/year as an 8-team conference - the Big East rejected it, because it eliminated potential growth from CBS contracts and devalued basketball. Now having at least 12-teams and a conference championship with several new larger markets and a higher BCS average rank will add significant value in television contract negotiations in 2012 -- ESPN doesn't want to, but they'll come back with a better offer, because Boise State is a ratings winner for them and the Broncos appeared more on ESPN than any other team over the past three years. Plus you can count on CBS offering to keep what they have and NBC wants a piece too, so if a bidding war ensues, the winner will be all the Big East schools! I'd find it humorous if on the backs of that landmark Pac12 deal rates have gone up enough to value the Big East contract higher than the seven year deal the ACC signed in the spring - making 'Cuse and Pitt's departures an economic step down.
