If the Big East added UNLV, New Mexico, Memphis, and Temple they secure their "Best Hoops Conference" tag while giving the average football teams like SMU and Cincinnati an easier road to a more impressive finish and they get into more large markets. They should go that route.
Plus with big TV money a program like Memphis will almost certainly become a bigger factor in football.

Do they teach arrogant courses in NE high schools?

Why do you say that? I'm being serious. UNLV, Memphis, Temple, Louisville, UConn, Cincinnati is one hell of a basketball core, don't ya think?
Because you make it sound like those schools (which is just a pipe dream as of now) don't offer anything in terms of "all sports".

I can't speak for the others, but Memphis has good basketball(both), soccer(both), softball, golf, and so on.

Jeez man get the sand out of there.

Just man up and add ECU and So. Miss. If the big east wants to be relevant, add relevant football teams.

Thanks Gamecock. However, I'd be much happier if ECU were just left alone. At one time, I wanted ECU in the Big East. That was before the defections of Cuse, Pitt and WV. I want no part of it now.

We have ZERO in common with any Big East schools. We'll continue to expand our stadium and improve our game day atmosphere in Greenville without a huge TV market. I see stability in an all-sports alliance. I like where we are.

With the rapid growth of Greenville and ECU, in the not-too-distant future, we'll be the largest football draw in the state of North Carolina.

And then maybe the SEC comes calling. I was all about the Big East when they had those same teams. Odds are the five remaining (not including the invites) will move at some point in the not so distant future. So the BE is nothing more than a recreated CUSA with a Western Branch that will break off also one day so that all sports can be in one conference. The invites will eventually figure out why the others left if it's business as usual for the BE. Holland should be talking a whole lot to Slive.

Yeah...but currently the "western" teams are all football-only members. Including the ones being courted.

Need to wait until we know what the rules are for BCS/AQ for 2014 and beyond.
Then you know if you need to add all sports or football only.

I think the P12, B12, B1G, SEC and ACC should go to 16 teams each. The BE should invite anyone not in those conferences.

Louisville (all sports)
Rutgers (all sports)

USF (all sports)

West

Boise State (football)
Fresno State (football)
Houston (all sports)
Memphis (all sports)
San Diego State (football)
SMU (all sports)
UNLV (football)

I think this would be better for the Western teams

East

Cincinnati (all sports)
Connecticut (all sports)
Louisville (all sports)
Rutgers (all sports)
Memphis (all sports)
UCF (all sports)
USF (all sports)

West

Boise State (football)
Fresno State (football)
Houston (all sports)
New Mexico (football)
San Diego State (football)
SMU (all sports)
UNLV (football)

This would allow the Western Schools to do the following all sports conference and avoid putting themselves all over the place

Boise State
Fresno State
New Mexico
UNLV
SDSU
BYU
2 of the following (Long Beach State, Pacific, Gonzaga, Denver, UCD)

Another problem, Memphis and Fresno State are securely in the Alliance.

And with AQ's being phased out and no longer an incentive, why would would any one make that move now?

So while the alliance is a win, Fresno's top rival is really SDSU in many ways. Also for Fresno putting their non-revenue sports in the Big West would save significant money over the alliance which has tilted significantly mid-western and if UNLV left for the Big East would be even more so.

Conference affiliations and football aside, Fresno would love to be in an all sports conference that looked like this:
Fresno/SDSU
BYU/Boise
UNLV/Reno
New Mexico/UTEP
Colorado State/Wyoming

All rivals, all state schools, all western good basketball, good history. Unfortunately much like you the money gods don't seem to have made this possible. Whether it ends up half that way in the Big East or the alliance we shall see.

Would rather see: Fresno, UNLV, BYU, Nevada

Better football, Rival for UNLV, solidifies Nevada, better all sports school and allows a core of Boise, BYU, Fresno, SDSU, UNLV and Nevada to form a core all sports conference.

Wow O.C. That's the best plan I have seen on this board yet.....And if the Be wants to place some stipulations on the news teams for membership, such as facility upgrades, etc. that would be fine too. +2 for this one!

Nevada's barely draws, its more WAC material in being with NMSU & USU- their Fanbase has torpedoed any opportunity for them to move up due to abysmal support in an already small market.

Air Force is the clear choice, and Id love to see Hawaii in there as a backup..

That's the basic should be all sports conference. I would still divide up the BB only teams if they desire to east and west divisions. You may have some all sports schools also change divisions during BB season to balance league. Again top eight in each division go to tourney.

I like the 14 idea, but if the BE isn't getting BYU or AFA, then still keep the western addition in the west. New Mexico would be a good choice.

Memphis is in the same time zone as Dallas and Houston. New Mexico is in the Mountain time zone. If the Big East adds an all sports school it should be Memphis for that simple reason.

RE: Big East should go to 14.
I'm aware of the timezones, we've shared a conference with Memphis for years.

IMO, Memphis is not a good fit for the western schools. If we're picking a basketball school, might as well pick one that will fit better with the western expansion as long as Temple is picked for the east.

My two cents.
