Interesting data, but the numbers are somewhat deceiving as:

2) The non-AQ are usually playing on the road against the higher tier AQ teams

RE: The new Big East by the numbers
Actually, when you consider that AQ's have a built-in recruiting advanatage, bigger budgets, better facilities, and typically schedule non-AQ's on a 2 for 1 basis (2 home games for one away game)---its suprising that the non-Aq's win at all. Give these programs a few years with those advantages and I suspect their ability to do more with less may show up in superior performance numbers going forward.

USM 93-59 .61 10-24 .29
non-AQ record 83-35 .70

AQ wins include Alabama, Oklahoma State (2X), Illinois, Kansas, North Carolina State, Virginia (2X)

AQ losses include Tennessee, Florida, Alabama multiple times, Auburn, California, Penn State, Virginia Tech, South Carolina

Just for comparison's sake

Now does everyone see why the Big East didn't add members until its survival depended on it? The reinforcements are terrible.

Also, just thought I'd note that UC is 32-22 over the past 5 years against AQ competition. That's better than the TOTAL winning percentage of everyone on this list except for Boise, Louisville, and USF.

I think a lot of what UC has accomplished in the last 10 years, seriously I do. That said, you can't compare what you accomplish with the ability to recruit to a BCS league with what someone else accomplishes without that advantage. And one of those particular candidates, my alma mater, is doing markedly better than the list shows recently vs AQ teams. We only look bad if you go back to when our program was in the wastelands. If you want to look long-term, we could look at all-time records and you can get back to me in 15 years or so when you've finished seasons ranked as often as we have already, or when you play your first season vs the level of competition we faced when completing those ranked seasons.

Boise Idaho is one of the premiere urban destinations in this country. Many of their residents now have Cable television instead of those antennas my great great great grandfather use to have. They have not one...but TWO Chili's bar and grill. Reason why they were chosen was because of their enormous population of 200k and over 600k if you include the entire metropolitan area. That will definitely be a big boost to BE market and give much needed "Eyeballs." BIG BIG BIG Market....

You are right. SMU's two wins are against 4-7 Kansas and 2-10 Washington State.

SMU beat TCU this season.

Good job! Beating TCU next season may count as an AQ then.

And that is the problem. A Win over TCU this year according to you is worth less than a win over Minnesota. Give me a break. Any idiot knows that's not the case.

Thank you.

you can't really think you can compare those percentages... I mean teams like Houston and UCF had to go out and try to schedule "as high up the food chain' on the road as possible... while the BE schools still had the opportunity to beat up on teams who were having down years in your own conference and just as often at home as on the road.

Boise is the exception to the general rule in that regards...

RE: The new Big East by the numbers
Thanks for putting this together. Do you have easy site that you are pulling this data from? I could go do the leg work, but it would be too time consuming at the moment. I would like to know a couple of things for comparison. Going back to the last expansion, what were the 10 year records of the teams the Big East prior to their invite? Of the current Big East, what is their record against AQ conferences outside of the Big East?

UH was late to the party in CUSA. After winning the 1st CUSA title the program went into a death spiral for a number of reasons. We didn't come out of that until 2003, since then we are 69-45 and 7-13 against BCS schools

RE: The new Big East by the numbers
ECU's AQ wins in that time, VT, WVU, UNC, NCSU, UVa, TTU. WVU was ranked in the top 10, VT in the top 25(ACC champs that year).

Also, this includes the JT years 3-21, those two years really hurt us.
