Girls are pretty young, but showing some real potential talent. Taylor Gault and Jeanette Mariaux are our shooters. When they're on, we'll win most games against comparable competition.

I was also impressed with Taylor Ford and Megen Williams. They both handled the ball pretty well and made a few shots. Hannah Fohne and Marian Kursh give us a pretty good inside presence, and Britini Williams helps out on defense and reboundiong.

I think we'll be competitive in our conference. But the women's team is somewhat like our men's team. In order to win, the outside shooting has to be good, because we won't win with our inside game.
We just don't have the firepower to carry the team. Jeanette and Taylor G's shooting was the difference in the game. I haven't seen anyone on our men's team who can shoot the 3 like either of those young women. At least not in game conpetition as yet. The men were practicing shooting on Fisher Court. I noticed Taggart shooting the three pretty well. Didn't get a look at the rest. Just had a minute. We watched from up above. Did see some of the men's players before the game. Not a great crowd. I would guestimate 500 including the players and coaches.

We had spells where we looked pretty good, and we had pretty good ball movement. But we had a spell in the first half and another in the second half where we looked like Ned in the first reader against the press. They are going to have to learn how to handle the press(and there is no doubt in my mind that they've been taught how to do it) or they're going to have some big problems against the good teams. Southern Mississippi was not a good team. They had a couple of good players, but are not a good team.

But they are in a conference that is considered higher than we are. They did have two very good players, and a few other decent ones. If Jeanette and Taylor hadn't really be on from the perimeter, we would have lost that game. They shot lights out. Reminded me of Solo and Matt in the good old days.
