Good question. He has never stuck around anywhere (other than Briarcrest) long enough to actually recruit.

Freeze is a joke. His claim to fame is letting academic casualty Michael Oher into Briarcrest, where he parlayed him into a job at Ole Miss. After getting run off with the rest of Coach Ogre's staff, he spent two years at NAIA school Lambuth and then spent one year coaching Steve Robert's players at ASU. He has not spent more than two years at a job since leaving Briarcrest. In other words, he hasn't been anywhere long enough to recruit and coach his own players.

Memphis only has 66 players on scholarship. People forget that. Freeze is completely UNPROVEN as a recruiter, and we desperately need an infusion of talented players in Memphis. He is the WORST candidate on the list, with the exception of Houston Nutt.

Freeze has been a HC before (even it has been just a year) and an Coordinator, two things that Porter did not - that's a BIG difference. I honestly believe that one of Porter's biggest obstacles was the on-the-job training he had to do when he first got the job.

As to his recruiting, well, he at least has been a HC at a local high school, which should help him if he stays close to home. I tend to think people are too quick to jump on his bandwagon, but he at least has a decent resume and some accomplishments at this point.

I wouldn't hire him to be a coordinator at Memphis. He's still unproven. Not to mention the fact that his agent is Jimmy Sexton. I don't want that scumbag anywhere near the Tiger football team.

You are really starting to look like a total idiot on the matter. Freeze took a rag tag bunch of low level players at ASU to a 9-2 record. I don't think we will get him, but if we do, we will go to a bowl next year at minimum. Not to mention he beat the dogshit out of Porter 9,000 to 0 with about the same talent. Freeze would be a home run hire, FACT.

TGOC makes some very valid points about Freeze. He has one good season and people are going ape over him.

TGOC is a lot of things but idiot is not one of them. he and I have had some pretty intense arguments on here and while I disagree with him a lot, he is far from an idiot.

When I saw Porter on the sidelines he always looked lost like a deer in headlights. RC should be b!tch slapped on his way out for ever thinking that Porter was the right hire.

Tend to agree here. I always get amused when the media-created "HOT" candidate comes up, especially if it is based on limited HC experience at a non-AQ school. Malzahn, I get it with him.

Instead, he has been a part of two Super Bowls and long NFL seasons where he's been a part of scheming against the best athletes and coaching minds in the highest profession...the National Football League.

Freeze has more head coach experience than Porter even now. Porter still has none he didn't do much coaching while he was here. Freeze would be a home run.

Porter is a great guy but great guys don't always make great coaches. Freeze seems to be a great guy but seems to also be an even greater coach.
