next year, with WN, Javes, and Gus to work with. Throw James White in the mix, a year stronger, and you have an inside presence we've never had. Plus we're bringing in another 6'10" player, who will probably redshirt next year and have time to develop. This is really beginning to get fun.01-lauramac2

Kid from Houston Strake Jesuit. 5'10". But it's possible Lawton will man the point next year, or maybe Dillard. Chucy is a possibility, but he's sort of a shoot first, pass second type player. Long shot as a future point guard...Tre'van Richardson, the walk on who's redshirting this season. I think he's a true point guard. He's small in stature, but quick, sees the court well, and is a pretty fair outside shooter. obviously we have to come up with someone to replace D'Andre who might end up an all conference player this season.

Wasn't Ben Dillard recruited primarily as a point guard? I am very impressed with his court awareness as a freshman.

I'm not certain, but you could very well be right. He's a pretty physical kid for a freshman, and seems to handle the ball well.
He might well be in line for the job. I haven't seen enough of him to make any type of judgement, but I would imagine we'll see more of him in the non conference games to get some kind of idea where they plan to utilize his talents.

You're right. I just went back and checked. 23.6 ppg, 81% from free throw line, and 41% from 3 point range. Obviously a two guard. I have to think the plans are for Lawton to man the point as a Senior, and possibly the kid from Houston Strake Jesuit will be his understudy and take over the following year. Of course this kid could be the real deal, and become the point guard as a freshman. Lot of interesting possibilities.

With the quality of bigs we have a good pg will be the difference in getting them the ball and having grinder ball. Leper, Jeeves and wn deserve that.

If we have big guys who can score around the basket and shoot free throws, I'm all for it. We nearly won that game last night with atrocious three point shooting. If we had just shot just 25% from the three, we win the game. That's an encouraging sign. I feel certain that part of our game will improve.

Sounds like a 2 to me, as well, but with his apparent court savvy and pedigree, he might be the truest cross-over guard that we've ever had, i.e. very good at both positions. That would be nice, wouldn't it.

I saw the Poulter signee is a 70% freethrow shooter...

I know everyone is high on this young man. I really haven't seen him play enough to make any kind of judgement, but based upon his pedigree, I think he'll be a very good player for us.

Hagins is also a point guard and supposedly a very good one. Gillon scored 60 points in a game in some type of tournament. That's pretty strong. In his bio, it says he's extremely quick and can get down court and shoot the three. Sounds like a Carl Brown type (for those old enough to remember Carl) to me. He could be the starting point guard next season, ala Asriel Rolfe on the ladies team. I think the coaches did a great job, signing all our players in the early signing. We've never done that before.

Curious....why is early signing so significant? What is the upside to the program?

One reason is that it indicates that the players you want are eager to sign with you.
