They don't, and won't. Of the 2004-2011 Big East, the only schools the major conferences wanted were Syracuse and Pitt, and they took them. The Big 12 took WVU out of necessity. But none of the other 5 Big East schools are wanted by the other AQ conferences, otherwise they would have taken them.
And certainly no other AQ conferences want the mid-majors joining us in the New Big East either, otherwise they would have taken them too.
I fail to see where you think i'm contradicting myself. One thing we can say for sure about the New Big East is it won't have to worry about poaching, since there aren't any members that other AQ conferences will want. All of those have been taken already.

I was responding to the following quote you had made.
" Perhaps, but i don't see how announcing 4-5 minor-conference refugees as new Big East members will prevent a current Big East member from joining the ACC. "
FYI-It should be noted that a previously acquired "minor conference refugee" was poached from the Big East before it ever played a game---and was chosen ahead of Ptt, Syracuse, and W. Virginia. For what its worth, it would be nice if there were no poaching for a while and the Big East could have a period of stability in which to build strength.

Right, and i don't see how your response addresses this quote. Note that i am not saying that the ACC actually wants any current Big East members, i was responding to another poster who was assuming they did, and if they did, then i don't see how announcing 4-5 minor conference members soon would prevent them from leaving ...

The big east BCS rep will be ripped by media for not being ranked, so the announcing of the additions of Houston and Boise will be just in time to deflect that

The Big East needs to concentrate on basketball since that's the only sport they care about anyway. Bring in schools with strong basketball programs like Memphis and Temple and keep the league higher rated than the ACC. As long as the league can retain AQ status, I don't care if we are the weakest BCS conference. What good is the BCS access if you're in a league that is so tough you can never win it? But it is painfully obvious that ESPN, the Big XII, and the ACC want to destroy the Big East to get it's BCS slot and diminish its basketball dominance. How can the Big East win against such powerful enemies?

No way!! First off football is the driver, if we give up and become only about basketball you think Louisville will be packing their stadium and strong will be around?
The league is doing a good plan on adding schools that can develop into good football programs. Boise,Houston,UCF and smu are the types of programs that can grow football wise.
The league has a good future if we can add those teams

I started thinking that a couple of weeks back, and now with SDSU being talked about; then it can be seen how logical might arrive at that conclusion.

No offense Bull, but you are the wishful thinker (one would almost say homer) here. You better hope that Georgia doesn't upset LSU next week in the SEC championship game, because if that happens then the SEC is definitely going to be out for the Big East.

And you are looking for worst case scenarios were the Big East will suffer. LSU will not lose to Georgia

Cube,
Upsets happen in sports all the time. For the sake of the Big East you had better hope for an LSU win next week.
And it is not the worst case scenario, because other conferences will either send a ranked champion or one that won a conference championship game; to a BCS game. The Big East will not have either if Louisville is the Champ.

They sure do and people win the lottery all the time. But all I'm saying is that some of the fans from cusa teams that are not being asked to join can't wait to have every possible bad case scenario happen for the Big East.
I would say that there are better odds of LSU winning and UCLA winning PacTen bringing in a worse record than the Big East champ

I bet you would. The one thing that we know is that WVU will probably not have to pay the Big East an exit fee. The SEC is going to see to that.
