I'd prefer them as an all sports invite, but I'm good with it.

If you travel to away games, this conference will allow you to see America. Beats going to Hattiesburg, Greenville, Birmingham, Tulsa, Huntingdon, etc.

I didn't realize those cities were in Mexico and Canada... thanks for the update and for your input.

If Russia was willing to sell us Alaska, and France was willing to sell us Louisiana, then why can't we turn around and sell Hattiesburg, Greenville and the entire state of West Virginia to Mexico? They wouldn't bring much money, but at least we'd be rid of an albatross around our necks.

(11-23-2011 11:24 AM)oldaztec Wrote:  Hello there from sunny San Diego. I'm sure most if you do not know much about San Diego State football and its traditions and also the university itself. SA Diego State is part of the Cal state university system such as Long Beach state, Fresno State and San Jose state. Are also many others who do not play football.
Most of the educational money for universities ends up going to the University of California system and they are the only ones that are allowed to rent Ph.D.s although many schools such as San Diego State of joint doctoral programs. It be perfectly honest with you academically San Diego State was not very good it was very similar to Arizona State in the past. However, both of those universities have grown enormously and are now solid academic institutions.

San Diego State had a long history of success in football but it was in the old sma;; college division and we won many national titles and produced dozens of NFL players including current quarterbacks coach and former NFL player of the year Brian Sipe, Marshall Faulk, many others.
The program was for a successful from the early 1960s through the 1980 or so, and then had arun of mediocrity going through 2000. After that two terrible hires a junior college coach Tom craftand Chuck Long drove it into the ground like a tent peg.

San Diego county and its adjoining counties of Orange County and Riverside County are hotbeds or division one football recruits. San Diego also has a great appeal for Arizonies sense that is where most of the Arizonans take their vacation San Diego. There is a connection between the University of Houston and San Diego State and that connection is former padres owner and Huston graduate John Moores. The former padres owner gave large amounts of stock to San Diego State And they have first class facilities in both their weight rooms and in general.

The history of San Diego State is that if you produce winning teams and exciting football regardless of the competition you'll drop 40,000 plus fans .If you loose play pathetically, you will draw flies In San Diego .If you win regardless of the opponents you will draw 40,000 or more. At least that is history up to date
The team has improved its recruiting drastically and there's no question that it will continue to have solid football team wining 8 to 10 or 11 games a year.

The Aztecs are absolutely loaded at many positions including running back where they are a deep and have a number of top wide receivers and a great class of huge freshman offensive lineman. The defense is very fast they're not very big yet but there are young recruits with size and speed who just need to develop a little. That being said I'm not a fan of this move I think the Big East is to unstable and if this move fails the Aztecs are going to be in a real pickle.

The way teams like Boise and TCU build their program was by being in a lesser league and winning almost all their games every year and cherry picking few good opponents out of conference.I think this is the best route for San Diego State but what ever happens I will be an Aztec supporter.
We just had one of those years where are two wide receivers went to the NFL and a note of the four guys behind them three blew out their knees and one was ineligible. As a result are passing game was pathetic little over 50%.
Next year we have several young quarterbacks one of which was raided by rivals number 10 were all very mobile and about eight or nine top wide receiver prospects so we should be better there .No matter what happens I wish the best for the teams in the Big East
Dude, you should have proof read that mess. It teeters on the unreadable.

I'm okay with SDSU, but the ACC, Big XII, and ESPN are going to do everything in their power to kill the conference.

As a California resident, I'm pretty jazzed about having a California school on board. I would love to have a good roadie that I could make guaranteed every year! And you can't beat San Diego!

No need to be grumpy with someone who takes the time to register and share info. Like the rest of this board is full of literary geniuses?

This is true. While normally bowing to "demands" is not a good idea, this is a reasonable request of theirs.

Normally, I would agree, but I can understand why football-only would be good due to the distance. From the BE side, I doubt too many schools would complain about a trip to San Diego every couple of years, and I would not mind them being an all-sports member either. But that would be too much travel for San Diego to deal with, and would put them at a severe competitive disadvantage. Also if you invite SDST as an all-sports school, you also have to allow Boise St to join in all sports.

RE: BE fans are you ok with SDSU as a replacement.
I actually prefer SDSU to some of the current 6 rumored teams, so I am definitely happy with this.

I personally don't see what SMU or UCF add to the conference, other than i guess manufactured rivalries with Houston and USF. I guess the travel partner thing is what did it?

Personally I'd put prefer a legit western division. BYU, SDSU, and UNLV all add more to the league than UCF or SMU does. For an all sports member Temple is better all around than both.

East:
USF
UC
UL
Rutgers
UConn
Navy

West:
Houston
BSU
BYU
UNLV
SDSU
AFA

^^^ something like that.. i guess with BYU out SMU works

SMU will have a manufactured rivalry with Houston? They were in the SWC together for many years, then C-USA. And Dallas vs. Houston is always a rivalry.

SMU adds a huge market and some academic gravitas, something this conference could use. It's a great school in the most fertile recruiting area in the country. They'll be a good addition.

I'm a hardcore grammar nazi. It's who I am. There are only so many times I can read the wrong "our"/"are" before I lose it.

Is that so? Well, "Nazi" is capitalized because it's a proper noun. Perhaps even "Grammar" as it describes what kind of Nazi you are. Also, What is "it" are you going to lose?

You know, I just realized they are starting from ground zero with SDSU plus we have the interruption of the Thanksgiving holidays. So im guessing its going to be at least a couple of weeks before any announcements could be expected. Does that sound about right?

They probably already have the template for schools leaving the MWC, so it should be quick. But "quick" means a couple weeks, so I think you're right.

I'm pretty sure our president has autonomy when it comes to conference moves, so don't be surprised if it moves pretty fast.
