Well...with the WVU/Marshall football negotations in a deadlock (the WVU AD came out publicly yesterday and said 3 for 1 or no deal while the Marshall AD said earlier in the week 2 for 1 or no deal)....the WVU football program has begun to consider other options and one of those mentioned recently by Ed Pastilong was to get the football series with Kentucky going again....Personally I think that would it would be a great thing for the WVU fans in southern WV/ohio valley region to have WVU play a game in the bluegrass state everyear

Seems like your AD trying to get the 3 for 1 deal is a way to get more home games (thus $$$03-wink, something I doubt Kentucky would agree to. So my question is would playing Kentucky home-and-home provide for the same fanancial benefits that a 3 for 1 deal would do? If nothing else, it should at least help in the win column for the 'eers.

Actually it seems WVU could make more money playing UK home and home then it would playing MU a 2 for 1...this is a blurb from an article today that explains the reasoning"

Quote:The Mountaineers' athletic department, for the most part, is self-supporting. Marshall, on the other hand, operates its athletic department mainly with major state funding.

WVU actually would realize less profit from playing Marshall than it would Mississippi State, a future foe, or almost any other non-conference opponent.

The Thundering Herd is asking for a considerably bigger payoff for playing in Morgantown than WVU is offering schools from other conferences.

And in this connection, the Big East is urging its football schools to schedule tougher non-conference teams. That's not only needed to attract more TV money, but also to preserve Big East's inclusion in the Bowl Championship Series mix.

I seriously doubt a series with UK will happen with WVU. They are ending their series with IU because they are looking for guaranteed wins. No way they would want to schedule a school as good as WVU.

If you slap a Tech on the end of your name they might think about scheduling you. A game against West Virginia Tech is more along the lines of what their future is about. They want to schedule games they feel they can be competitive in. Pretty sad, but true.

-- Actually Kentucky dropped the series the first time when WVU started to become an annual bowl team

-- Based on the comments of our AD it seems WVU wants to find another regional game to replace the VT series (which despite rumors I have heard seems to be dead after this yr).....UK and UVA were mentioned in his interview

Why do you want to replace VT. I understand the anger towards Miami and BC but not VPI.

-- West Virginia feels betrayed by VT in a way other BE members cannot understand.....WVU and Don Nehlen went to bat for VT big time to get them in the BE when they had a horrible football program and really no where else to go conference wise....and after VT (despite all the promises there AD made) went into the ACC one of the first things they did was cancel the WVU/VT bball series which had been an annual afair since the 1950s...apparently since they were in the ACC VT was suddenly too good to play WVU

-- the VT AD has said he has concerns about his team/fans safey at football games in Morgantown, the WVU AD basically has questioned the honor of his Hokie countpart based on what he said about VT not wanting to go to the ACC and private assurances that WVU supposdly got that the bball series would continue despite VTs conference change

-- There had been rumors of a WVU/VT football game to be played in Washington DC...but I guess relations between the two schools are too strained for something like that...its a shame really because the two schools have had some good football games

You have to remember VT was in a lawsuit against Miami/BC and the ACC initially with the other remaining BE teams. Then through politics they got the ACC invite despite 24 hours earlier stating they were Big East brothers forever. VT play both sides of the fence.

I understand now, they backstab you guys as well. It is like that with us in C-USA, the remaining schools in that conference pretty much hate us for leaving. Their reason was if we said no then it would have forced a merger-(That was NEVER going to happen).

We told them from the get go that we would go to a BCS league if invited. They're pissed at us while they let TCU go with a free pass. What TCU did was even worse then what Miami, BC and VPI did. After we left TCU shape the conference and got C-USA to invite Rice, SMU and Tulsa then at the last minute changed their minds and went to another Non BCS League.

The Big East was still holding the "cards" (no pun attended) even needing teams due to being the higher profile league. Louisville leaving was "Cause-->Effect" from the ACC raid. Their was no back office politics.

I believe Louisville would've ended up with the Big East anyways regardless of the ACC raid.

If the raid didn't happen that also would have meant that Florida State was coming to the BE, and probably Penn State would have come at that point as well. Connecticut, Temple, Rutgers, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, Syracuse, Pitt, Miami, Boston College, Penn State, Louisville, and Florida State would have been a formiddable conference. Perhaps Maryland and Cincy would have been coming as well to make a 14 team conference whose payout would be worth it I'd think. That would essentially have destroyed the ACC instead.

Be careful of hypocrisy here. If you believe this then you're suggesting the ACC's actions should be excused. After all, you're saying the ACC could see it's demise coming (via the departures of FSU and others, and likely their BCS tie) but then implying they were wrong for doing something about it by agreeing to FSU & Miami's demands.

I can't say exactly what TCU wanted immediately after UofL and company left, but every TCU fan/ post/ article I've seen since has suggested they never wanted full affiliation with all the other Texas schools, most notably SMU. That TCU was trying so desperately to distinguish themselves from the others that they jumped to the MWC.

I agree it would then be hipocrisy, this is why I've stopped complaining about the raid. Because if the BE decided to take FSU like Miami wanted it would have gone entirely differently and instead we'd have been doing the raiding be the bad guys.

Gunner,

Even keeping FSU, the ACC saw its demise. They were is deep jeopardy of losing their BCS bid because FSU had slid the past four years and they were in jeopardy of falling below the 4 yr BCS poll average of 12 or better. FSU was grumbling they were unhappy with the ACC. Your reading a bit too much into the other posters words and your hypothetical is laughable.

There were rumors that MT was acually helping the ACC to land Miami, but it all backfired when Miami demanded that the ACC take Syracuse and BC as well. We all know that Miami succeeded in getting BC and VT was the other - a damned good decision on the part of the ACC. Miami still got the Northeast exposure they wanted and the ACC picked up a shool that will also help boost their BCS rating.

Getting back to the topic, I agree that UK will not want to play WVU. It is a losing proposition for them all around. They need to schedule some patsies to go along with their tough SEC schedule. WVU is no patsy. Kentucky would likely even be too afraid to play an upstart such as Uconn because of fear of losing. I expect they will try to squeeze a schoool such as Temple or one of the MAc's. Getting Temple will be difficult seeing that the ACC has pretty much filled Temple's schedule for them.

Will be interesting to see what p"UK"e does (I am some what of a Louisville fan :) )

If Kentucky is dumping IU and Ohio University in favor of more "winnable" games then they aren't going to pick up WVU, they are trying to quit playing us. They say that playing teams like Vanderbuilt and Mississippi State in the SEC is too much already week in and out.

? 03-confused ?

a) What "hypothetical?"

b) Brista, whom I quoted, agreed with me, and your opening assessment should place you two in the same camp. So, now what?
