Omni, I apologize if I offended you in any way. I just interpreted your "dream of a true northeastern league ", as you wanting to have only schools located in northeasten states. The Big East is definitely not a northeastern league and I guess never was a truly northeastern league. USF is definitely on an island. I also understand that UCF would help USF with travel. I would like to know who/whom thrusted USF upon the Big East?

The NCAA, the ACC, BC, and Mikey T of course.

The NCAA had this nice new regulation that started in 2004 which requires a D-1A conference to have at least 8 members. If there had been no ACC expansion, with the BE dropping Temple the BE would have had to add UConn a year earlier than scheduled.

Next, ACC expansion which robbed the BE of Miami and VT. This required adding two more teams - Louisville and Cincinnati. The announcement would have been made in October 0f 2003 if not for...

Further ACC expansion (ND breaking off negotiations with the ACC and the NCAA not allowing a championship game with less than 12 members - ridiculous considering you only need 6 for other sports) leading to BC accepting the 12th slot in the ACC. This forced the BE to scramble for yet another team with only a few weeks time to decide.

And finally, Mikey T. who used the football coaches desire to stay connected with the Florida recruiting grounds (though none really have any real success there) and who convinced the presidents that USF's market made them the most desireable.

Again, a hasty decision thrust upon the BE due to time and circumstances. I hope the Bulls pan out, but I remain skeptical at this point in time.

Cheers,
Neil

Wilkie,

3 things:

'Potential' means you ain't done it yet.

Play a 'real' schedule before you start talking smack.

If SU doesn't do one more thing in terms of football (unlikely) we've already accomplished more than USF and Louisville every will combined.

Oh, and no offense 03-razz

Cheers,
Neil

That goes without saying, but really USF has more potential than every school in the BE.

Speaking of potential, Rutgers probably has more potential than every other school in the BE, since NJ is a top 5 or top 10 state for recruiting. Although I think RU has finally turned the corner, that potential has not done much for Rutgers in the past. The same thing could happen with USF's potential.

But I think USF will be a giant really soon. I am really hoping that they will be. But even if I felt differently, I am not going to knock them. USF deserves a chance before we start to really worry about them not living up to their potential.

I agree and I hope both of those schools get stronger! I want to be a member of a real football conference that is just as strong as our basketball! 04-cheers

-- I would be really curious to know who the coaches were who supported the move...probably someone like Greg Schiano at Rutgers (I know he tries to hit the Florida recruting trail hard)....

-- As for in WV....RichRod was very vocal about being against any Florida schools, saying that we are just creating a recruiting rival and that we would be helping them more then they help us.....and after the UCF scheuling incident when WVU actually considered legal action...I think I can safely say that WVU will be a solid "no" vote for UCF

-- Also I think adding UCF would certainly water down USFs recruiting...certainly Miami, FSU and UF can coexits but they basically get the cream of the crop....USF (and the rest of us when we recruit in Flordia) is basically trying to find some good players that the Big Three don't want...if we add another flordia school to fight USF for the "scraps" of the Big Three...then I think it could water down the Bulls' recruiting...especially when one considers both UCF and USF have very few recuriting connections outside of Florida

Rutger definitely was in favor of South Florida, and I could have sworn I heard that Pitt was in favor of them, I'm not sure. I do know that Louisville and Cincinnati also went to bat for South Florida.

Wilkie I see you already picked Syracuse as your least favorite Big East school. 03-razz

30-20 isn't a smack around but you do have the scoreboard. Hopefully, we can return the favor at the Pizza Box in November.

I'm looking forward to some great games the next few years in both sports. 04-cheers

You don't want to go into what we did to Yukon, I think we just scored another TD.

As for Fruit, we lead for a large part of that game by 17 points.

Yeah, good job smacking around a transitional 1-AA team back then. You all must have been very proud of that accomplishment. :D

The all time record for SU against the Ville is 3-1. Its nice that you guys beat us 25% of the time. 04-bow Yukon(I like the spelling) You are 0-1 and I think by the end of the season it will be 0-2. As for the Ville, I dont think we have a chance, but I can always hope.

Nice time is over, BCS is secure for a while if not for all time. Time for the new guys to take over the BEAST.

Number 6 in Football, Number 3 in Basketball and Number 1 in your heart. That is your University of Louisville Fighting Cardinals. We want it all, the Football title and the Basketball regular season and tournament title.

3-1 All Time but 0-1 for this century. It is time to squeeze the Orange. :D
