looks like it's gonna be sweet. On-campus home venue for Mercer football plus men's and women's lacrosse.

Yeah it looks great, I'm excited to see the progress. This was my favorite quote of the article:

Underwood unveiled renderings of the complex showing the initial phase that includes the field house, the playing surface, seating, a press box, and plazas on both sides of the field with restrooms and concessions. The facility will accommodate 6,000 spectators.

It looks like non-scholarship is not the end-all goal here to me!

You might be right, but you also might be leaping to conclusions. Subsequent phases might include more practice fields, or more bathrooms/concessions, for example.

We have a winner! It looks very similar to what Coastal Carolina built, and they've grown enough now to where they're building an endzone area called the Chantourage, which is all students. Congrats on the new digs, I expect Mercer to be playing scholarship football by 2020.

FCS football is about to be faced with an interesting, albeit a good problem. A problem that our genius athletic director said wouldn't happen. There's going to be more teams. The football conferences at FCS can only hold so many teams, so if universities keep moving up from D-2 and schools keep adding the sport, eventually FCS conferences are going to have 12 team conferences OR we'll see an even bigger regional split. Hell, by the time you guys put scholarships in (which will be soon I think) the state of Georgia will have Ga. Southern, Ga. State, Kennesaw, Mercer, and whatever HBCU's that are playing in the state. I see a scenario coming where out of necessity, both financial and quantity of teams there's FCS realignment.
