MyBB EAST CAROLINA W 76-74 (2-0)
Sagarin: ECU #197, Campbell #231 of 345 (Campbell by 2)

Pirates beat Milligan by a bunch, but we're their first D-1 opponent of the year.

Camels need to play better than they did vs HBU.

Gore Arena will be packed!

that may be in fact the best, most exciting win ive seen at CU. it was a roller coaster game to be sure. but ill give them one thing, they didnt give up and they have improved every game since the wingate game. i thought they actually had a little swagger late in the game. and the 3000+ fans were loud and proud.

Great game and great atmosphere! Students were really into it...hope that continues throughout the season.

Looks like the team is meshing well. Merthie and Ryan didn't play, though. Can't wait to get those two back into the mix.

Fayetteville Observer calls this the biggest comeback (from down 15) in Laing's tenure.

Who were those refs? Did Laing really ask one of the refs if this was his first game? That would be funny.

Here's the link to the C-USA board thread titled "Campbell Refs Should Never Officiate Another Game".....

ECU fans will be crying for sure about the officiating since they ended up on the losing side, but to have 6 men foul out (3 on each side) is silly. The HBU game was similiar with the fouls being called, I hope this is not a trend for the season.

Great atmosphere, got to find a way to get the students there every night like that. Trey Freeman is a beast.

ECU is a good team, to win that game without Merthie, Ryan and with Griffin on the bench a lot is a good sign. I thought Kalpic stepped up big time.

I think CU was down to Wilmington in old Carter by 15, as well. 65-50 if memory serves.

Things that I've always attributed to Robbie coached team seemed to be correct. He was able to come back from a big hole, able to hit late free throws, and able to finish a close game. Proud day for us Camels, lets hope the fans are present throughout the season.

Thanks 101 - I wondered about this and that's why I threw it out there.

Seeing a lot of little changes here and there this year that are greatly improving the fan experience for students and everyone else.

I'm not sure how i feel about Campbell rushing the court vs ECU, though.

Coming in from out of state I noticed that all these kids are growing up with Duke, Carolina, and NC State praised and glorified.... winning cultures. They come to CU and with its previous struggles with athletics programs, they don't take it as serious as other collegiate athletics. The fandom followed suit. Thats why I believe some games fans just sit on their hands all game. Because you aren't "supposed" to be a fanatic for Campbell. But when we do beat schools that's been on ESPN, the students get excited. They feel like its a tremendous accomplishment and a huge upset even when its not. Thus rushing the court anytime we win a game against any opponent of some notoriety.

But as we continue to compete and have successful athletic programs, specially in the big two, the culture will change.

I totally agree with that! ECU is a big deal to Campbell fans whether they are good or not! Rush the floor. I don't care. As long as everyone has fun and no one is hurt....who really cares?
