Why would CBS advertise for something competing with their late night news and The Late Show? I assume they regularly send out a list of filler script to for their lower budget affiliates to use before throwing it to their final commercial. Many chose to run this snippet because it connects to young and old viewers for different reasons.

Thankfully I've lived in Atlanta most of my life and get local news that is well produced/edited/written. However, the time I lived in Nashville (which is still many times larger than these affiliates) was marked by horrendously written newscasts. I can't expect every market to have enough meaningful news, or someone ready to offer commentary on national issues. News doesn't work across the nation like it does in major markets (24/7).
