Who wants to hire someone from Pedo State University

Let's not get carried away. There are 40,000 students at that campus. They don't ALL think the same way even if it looks that way on TV. They've also got some really nice programs and what not.

totally agree....old school football brethren is the problem...can't punish the uninvolved.

You can't lump the whole alumni and fans into one group. The football program was the problem...not the academic programs. However, it can be arugued that these top football programs have way to much power because of the revenue they generate. There is no doubt in my mind that there was a massive coverup starting with Paterno. The guy had everything to lose..in his mind..if this came into the public domain. It's a long way to fall once you are considered a God! Get rid of the BCS and share the wealth more evenly and maybe this would reduce the chance of this happening.

I definitely share some of your sentiments.

I've posted in a number of threads about how Penn State works and it all starts with football. Without Joe Paterno Penn State football is nothing. Without Penn State football, Penn State was nothing. Without Penn State, State College was nothing. It's this system that makes people idolize Paterno in the way that they do. It's pretty much as simple as saying that Paterno built Penn State football and thereby built the university and State College up.

Although this type of culture is kind of unique to Penn State because of Paterno's legendary status, it's clear that football drives the bus at a number of institutions around the country. We've seen the connections during realignment. As usual, it all comes back to money at the end of the day. The great football programs across the country bring in revenue for their universities.

Where great sums of revenue are brought in and there is great pressure to succeed there is serious potential for corruption. That's the story of college football these days. That's the Penn State story from my perspective. I speculate that Sandusky's issues were well known around the coaching staff and administrators. I think the facts we know right now support this. I also think the facts we know right now support the fact that they made a conscious decision to cover up his wrongdoing.

They made a decision to protect their football program instead of helping victims of child abuse. That's scary. That's the state of college football.
