Hard to think about trashing Joe Pa unless he specifically was aware of the situation and covered it up.

I know that "new facts" are coming out on this story almost by the hour, but I haven't heard that from any media-source. what I've heard is that Paterno did not witness anything but was told by a grad-assistant that some bad sh*t happened. And Paterno told either the A.D. or school president, or both. Now, just so we're clear, I think that is an incredibly lame response. I think Paterno should have -- minimum -- instructed the GA to contact the police, and then followed up to make sure the GA did so. But that is not the same thing as "covering it up", IMHO

Joe your fate was promised long ago!

Proverbs 24:12 - If you say, "But we knew nothing about this," does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who guards your life know it? Will he not repay each person according to what he has done?

From what I hear the actual witness to the crime still has his job...He should have called the police but went to Joe P & in turn Joe P did the right thing by telling the administration what this witness seen...The administration covered this up, not Joe P. Shame his career ended this way....I do hope the child molester burns in hell though.

RE: Whats that Joe?
I think we know that's a load of poo.

Joe did the absolute minimum of what was required to him by law. Joe was not the only one to do this. Others outright ignored the law.

I'll tell you what, many (and I mean many - too many) people go through this on a daily basis and manage to make sure the authorities know and something is being done about this.

My mother, a teacher, has had to do this on more than one occasion. It is hard to do but many manage. This is a child we're talking about. Trust me, he had to know that there was a lack of an investigation. The sniff of child abuse would have brought lots of attention to the school and he would have known if it was covered up or not.

Pathetic.

Going to the authorities would have been the right and completely correct action to take and he didn't. Joe should be ashamed of himself and embarassed by his lack of action.

He knew enough, for sure. JoePa's entire concern is for his legacy and the university, not the children.

The incident in 2002 where McQueary saw Sandusky anally raping a 10 year-old in the showers wasn't the first.

There was an investigation in 1998.
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/10/sports...tions.html

It was in 1999 that Sandusky was forced to retire. Coincidence?

Doesn't matter, because he was still allowed on campus, with full-access to PSU locker rooms where he still brought kids from The Second Mile.

There was an incident in 2000, too. Heck, there were a whole lot of incidents.
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/11311/1188149-143.stm

Why nit-pick on how it wasn't Paterno's responsibility in 2002? What about the times before and AFTER. Sandusky was still bringing kids around AFTER Paterno testified that he was told Sandusky had touched a child inappropriately in 2002, as late as 2008. That's six years AFTER McQueary told Paterno. Six more years of kids getting raped. That's Paterno's locker room. If he didn't want somebody in there then they wouldn't be allowed in. And even if Paterno claims he wasn't told it was rape (he testified he told McQueary to stop talking before it got to graphic) he still admitted he knew it was touching of a sexual nature.
BOOM. That's all you need to know there. That's what he admitted to, and that's enough cause for his firing.

I'm pretty sure it'll be much worse. Sandusky started The Second Mile in 1977. People don't just turn into pedophiles overnight. I don't believe 1994 was the first time Sandusky abused a child. That's 34 years that he had access to little boys; probably hundreds of children he came in contact with. What's worse is that Paterno was on the board of The Second Mile even after the 2002 incident.

He didn't know? C'mon.

This will most likely be the worst child molestation case in the history of this country.

The 2002 incident you are referring to where McQueary allegedly walked in on Sandusky sodomizing a 10 year old boy wasn't the first.

In 2000, the year after Sandusky retired, two janitors said they saw Sandusky hold a young boy against a wall while forcibly preforming oral sex on him.

Before that, a mother contacted State College police about Sandusky, but the cops never sought criminal charges.

Paterno wasn't just the head coach, he was a board member of The Second Mile, the charity Sandusky used to lure boys as young as six years old. That charity was started by Sandusky in 1977. You really believe he just started abusing kids out of the blue in the 1990's? More likely, it was much earlier...he just got more brazen about where he choose to abuse the children.

Even if 2002 was the first he had heard of it...why was Sandusky still walking around campus and in the locker rooms with kids as late as 2008, and showering by himself in 2011? Why was Sandusky still getting $58,000 a year from Penn State even after 2002?

Paterno ruled that campus for 46 years...there's no way he didn't know about the mother's report to police in the 1998 (funny that Sandusky retired shortly after), what the janitors saw in 2000, and the 2002 incident.
So, that's three chances, at least, that were missed, not just once.

Once is a mistake. Three and it's on purpose.
