WVU Anticipation
Obviously all of the legal hassles have to be resolved before WVU can actually start play in the Big 12, but what (if anything) are WVU fans looking forward to as they join?
From the Big 12 side, I'd have to think that K-State is looking forward to basketball games against Bob Huggins. Since the KU/KSU rivalry is so heated and Huggins was briefly part of that, I think that KU fans are also looking forward to having them in the league for basketball.
I think it will be interesting to see what rivalries develop over time, since they're going to be based less on geography but more on the actual competition. As an example, since KU and UT have had several seasons where they've fought for both the regular season and post-season tournament championships, there's been some rivalry building on the basketball side. (Football, alas, is another issue)

Outside of the geography (which is a big issue), I think the Big 12 is a pretty good fit for WVU. Its a step up in football but not the giant jump that moving to the SEC would have beeen. The fan interest in watching Big 12 football will be much higher then it is to watch new Big East football. The major problems I had with the Big East was that A) it was a hybrid and B) it as a urban league which didn't really line up with a land grant state school like WVU. I'm really excited to actually be in an all sports league. I can't wait to see Texas and Oklahoma football and Kansas basketball in Morgantown.

RE: WVU Anticipation
I think the nation's indifference to BEast football, and the fact that our rivals were in a conference (or joining shortly) that wants nothing to do with WVU was taking its toll on our fanbase. Big XII football is as good as SEC football right now, except for perhaps Alabama and LSU, who may be in a class by themselves. But the folks in Morgantown will like the style of play that Big XII teams will bring...
I hope WVU expands Milan Puskar Stadium soon. The increased capacity will come in handy when Big XII foes start coming to Morgantown. IMO that should be done before the Coliseum upgrade commences...

Being in a conference that has great fan support. We love our Eers. Our great state takes a lot of undeserved attacks. WVU allows the citizens an opportunity to come together for a common good. You see this is not just a University but instead a source of self worth for an entire state. We look forward to playing teams that posess that same passion.

RE: WVU Anticipation
Here's an article that pretty much sums up my feelings on the matter...
The Big 12, the Big East, and Two QuotesQuote:In all that has transpired in conference realignment, it's hard to pick out what's been most amazing. With Missouri's acceptance (finally) into the SEC, the dust seems to be settling. Now might be a good time to glance backward for diamonds in the dust.
Some of the comments made in the aftermath of the second ACC raid on the Big East were just stunning.
I'm not talking about the passionate comments made by WVU fans. Overall I think they were pretty great through all the turmoil. Question their grammar or sometimes their common sense if you want, but don't question their loyalty or their passion.
The stunning comments I'm talking about came from a few public figures.
A number of those comments came from Big East Commissioner John Marinatto, asserting the continued relevance of the Big East conference. I know he had to put up a confident front, but when Pitt and Syracuse dropped the bombshell that they were leaving the Big East, the conference was immediately and terribly diminished, and bringing in any number of C-USA schools or service academies, or schools in the Central or Mountain or even Pacific time zones won't change that. How does John Marinatto still have his job in the wake of the second ACC raid? How does such monumental failure not require that he be fired?

Sec is on a run for the moment. But in the last 20 years the Big 12 is pretty darn close. This year only LSU< Alb, Ark, Georgia , SC would be 500 in the big 12 the rest would be between ISU and Kansas at the bottom.

I would like to see the Big12 get back to 12 programs. South Florida would be a good addition.

Although it sucks that we are going to lose all of our rivalries, we can form some new ones in the Big 12. Im getting excited about playing in the Big 12. I cant wait to beat OU.....again! Also look forward to playing TCU and taking down the horns! I also believe this is going to make our bball explode! I think we have a great shot at a conference and possibly national title when we get in. We've got a very young team this year and playing in the BE will tough them up and when we do eventually get there, expect some butt whoopings! Happy Thanksgiving to all our future conference mates!

Hawg, the chances of USF joining the Big XII are non-existent. What makes you think they stand a chance? Or are you just kibbutzing, throwing stuff out there to see if it sticks?

I would just like to see WV be able to keep a presents in florida thats all bit. My reason for this is. When Arkansas left the SWC for the SEC it destroyed all of our recruiting areas. WV will be leaving every rival program that it has ever known to play in the Big12. I beleive this is the best move that WV could have made. I just don't think its the best move for WV. The ACC,Big 10, or SEC would have been better but they weren't offering.
