Occupy Florida?
Quote:The wealth gap between younger and older Americans has stretched to the widest on record, worsened by a prolonged economic downturn that has wiped out job opportunities for young adults and saddled them with housing and college debt.

The typical U.S. household headed by a person age 65 or older has a net worth 47 times greater than a household headed by someone under 35, according to an analysis of census data released Monday.

Damn evil, greedy old people. Occupy your local bingo parlor and show these old folks we aren't going to put up with their capitalistic greed anymore. I'm sure that in light of this striking income equality, the left will now fully support major reforms to Social Security, Medicare, etc. Or maybe they'll just continue to demonize the free market that so obviously caused this problem.

It's liberals who push for college degrees for everyone. Worthless degrees, that waste people's time and money.

Liberals destroy economies. Period.

I am going to venture a guess that you have no clue as to why this is the case.

Well, yes(though if you don't believe that people of the younger generation work, you are beyond hopeless) but what is the reason for not being able to save?

We have a culture that encourages incurring debt, and that is reinforced by reckless gov't spending that leads to inflation and Federal Reserve interest rate manipulation that punishes savers.

I'll humor you...people have CHOSEN to live beyond their means. Both my parents are retired teachers and back then pay was NOTHING. When I was a child we actually grew a lot of our food in a garden that along with my father, the children helped tend. We didn't eat meat at every meal. For Christmas we each got one present..usually a ball or pocket knife or something. People knew how to tell their friends and family..."No, I can't afford that right now". There are instances all over the country where people have trimmed their finances to live on one income and save the rest simply by cutting out the non essentials. The idea that we deserve the finer things in life is lunacy. Go and talk to your oldest living relative and ask them how they got by. You would be surprised. They worked hard, saved and bought only what they needed. Over time that is a recipe for early retirement and a nice nest egg. Todays youth have never had to REALLY work for anything and have never been hungry. This nations prosperity will be its downfall. It has produced an entire generation of self entitled, lazy, over educated losers who don't know the value of a dollar or what it means to work hard for it. NEWSFLASH! Everyone's not meant for college! Some people are meant to be carpenters, plumbers and laborers. These are noble professions and ones that teach people pride and self respect. We have a 9% unemployment rate in this country. Those people CAN find work if they CHOOSE to. They are too proud to flip burgers or swing a hammer. They would rather sit at home and collect a check. Thats why people can't/WON'T save money today.

Whatever. It is because many good paying jobs have been outsourced and many in that age group are working in near minimum wage jobs that make it nearly impossible to save-while corps are making record profits and paying CEO's more and more.

There are some lazy people out there. But you make it seem like everyone in that age group is a lazy bum who doesn't know how to or is willing to work. That is just not the case. You are just spouting talking points. Not sure where you live but in the real world, most people can't make it on one job, cut unnecessary expenses and save money. The person with the one job is making a good salary for that to be possible. That is NOT the average American.

Relative to what income was 30-40+ years ago vs cost of goods I think the situations are very similar when compared to income today and cost of goods. If you just sit back and think about what you could do without with regard to stuff/food you would be surprised how much you have when compared to what my/your grandparents had when they were our age. And they did it all on a very modest wage and usually one income. Back when credit cards didn't exist and cash was king. You financed houses and cars (maybe) and that was it. These aren't talking points. They're facts. I'm guilty too. We all are. Like I said our prosperity will be our demise.

How would you do it? Isn't that my business? And my responsibility?

Which is my point. When teachers and university professionals (faculty and admin) promote this idea of "you need an 'education'" who holds them responsible?

If #OWS had a clue, they'd be storming their alma maters. That's where the greed is (the rise in cost of that 'education' has been 4x the CPI, and that's just since 1980) and ironically in many cases invest heavily in Wall St.

Just for the record, I did run the numbers of whether college and grad school made financial sense for me. Obviously such a calculation is laden w/ assumptions, but it was pretty interesting how long it took for the payback, despite deliberate effort on my part to keep costs low. And that was on gross receipts. Net income would be longer.

Whatever. It is because many good paying jobs have been outsourced and many in that age group are working in near minimum wage jobs that make it nearly impossible to save-while corps are making record profits and paying CEO's more and more.

Like I said earlier, <insert your other usual talking points here>.

Why do you think good paying jobs have been outsourced?
Because they can pay the people in China and India $1/day, hence more profit?

The typical U.S. household headed by a person age 65 or older has a net worth 47 times greater than a household headed by someone under 35, according to an analysis of census data released Monday.

Damn evil, greedy old people. Occupy your local bingo parlor and show these old 03-zzz
folks we aren't going to put up with their capitalistic greed anymore. I'm sure that in light of this striking income equality, the left will now fully support major reforms to Social Security, Medicare, etc. Or maybe they'll just continue to demonize the free market that so obviously caused this problem.
I am going to venture a guess that you have no clue as to why this is the case.

A 30 year headstart in a 401k or IRA maybe?

Why what is the case? Why older people have more money? Becuase insteading of protesting they spent their life working and saving. Or did you have something else in mind? Some other tea bagger gave that response too.

Liberals destroy economies. Period.

Don't you have a college degree? What was it in?

He said Worthless degrees not degrees period.

You know like LGBT studies, or community organizing...
