ACC basketball predictions 2011-2012
After UNC and Duke, the field is wide open.

Here are my predictions:

#1 North Carolina-All 5 starters are back. Harrison Barnes really played well down the stretch. UNC also found it's PG Kendall Marshall. This could be another banner year in Chapel Hill.

#2 Duke-Duke is deep in the front court. The back court is loaded with young talent. Austin Rivers has arrived, along with Quinn Cook. Lets not forget about Seth Curry. Duke should go deep in March.

#3 Florida State- One of the hotter teams last year in March. Bernard James is a great rebounder and shot blocker. If his offensive game continues to develop watch out. PG is a question mark.

#4 Miami- Great back court combo with Durrand Scott and Malcom grant. Reggie Johnson should continue his dominance down low. Should be one of the better season for the U in recent memories.

#5 NC State- C.J. Leslie and Lorenzo Brown are back. Both players will have to make a big impact this year. NCST doesn't want back to back years under .500

#6 Virginia- The cavaliers are led by forward Mike Scott. Scott was averaging 15.9 ppg and 10 rebounds a game before an injury. This team could be on the bubble come March.

#7 Virginia Tech-Delaney and Allen are gone. But the Hookies have a great freshman class coming in. Ill be keeping my eye on Dorian Finney- Smith.

#8 Georgia Tech-Glen Rice Jr. is back. Brandon Reed transfers in from Arkansas State he avg. 15 ppg. as a freshman.

#9 Clemson-The Tigers lose their top 2 scorers. Demontez Stitt also led the team in assists. Jerai Grant led the team in rebounds. An average recruiting class leads me to believe the Tigers will take a step back.

#10 Wake Forest- 4 starters return. The problem is those starters went 8-24 last year. Whos going to step up for the Deacons, my guess Chennault.

#11 Maryland- Center Jordan Williams is gone. Even more devastating is that long time head coach, Gary Williams is gone. Mark Turgeon will have a rough first year as coach.

#12 Boston College-11 new faces for the Eagles. Only 209 total points from returning players. Steve Donahue is already looking forward to 2012-2013 season.

What are your predictions?04-cheers

1) North Carolina
2) Duke

Nothing else really matters beyond that, b/c you're asking one to have faith in ...

a) Leonard Hamilton's coaching ability
b) Clemson's ability to not be "Clemson basketball"
c) Seth Greenberg

I think the fella above has Miami WAY too high, given they have no big men.

Only two schools could hopefully surprise are Virginia and NC State.

RE: ACC basketball predictions 2011-2012
The best dream we all could have for this basketball season , is the final four in new orleans which would have Duke, North Carolina, Syracuse,Pittsburgh playing for the National Championship. The Big East would be totally screwed. All the announcers would be talking about is what a great conference the ACC will be in a year or two.

Screw that. Seth is doing a great job and about as well as can be expected considering our basketball tradition and lack of being near a big city.

I think State has a chance to finish over 500 in the conference this year. A fresh start can do wonders.

It's really more of the guys at techsideline.com theory than mine. They've brought up in their recruiting analysis that most basketball prospects come from big cities and would prefer to have what big cities offer close by. I don't think it makes that big a deal, you just have to find kids who want to live in a small college town for 4-5 years.

And no, Roanoke and Salem aren't big enough either.

Here's hoping State (no, not FSU) can return to some sense of glory, now that a (seemingly) real coach has arrived.
