OT, Health scare at high school football game

"Authorities in Houston are still searching for answers after an area high school football game was called off early after nearly two dozen fans were hospitalized after suddenly becoming sick in the stands of Barnett Stadium on Friday night.

During the second half of the game between Austin (Texas) High and Houston (Texas) Yates, many members of the band and dance team from Austin started suffering from nausea, vomiting and dizziness and began collapsing in the stands, according to numerous media reports.

Officials feared they had been exposed to some type of biohazard and called hazmet teams to the scene but no traces of gases or chemical agents were found."

Very strange. Wonder what's up. My first though was something was in the concession food. That doesn't appear to be the case though. Hmmm.

Here is video of a kid throwing up. They say a firefighter felt sick when he arrived there. It makes it seem like it's something in the air then.

Interesting... We had something similar at a local HS on Thursday and the school was closed on Friday.

Yeah it's kinda creepy. Hopefully it's just a gas leak or something. If it's some kind of newly evolved virus this could get bad. That's probably just me assuming the worst though. 04-cheers

The only way I might be okay with this is if it were a zombie virus. Only then... (we're long overdue)

Meh, the older unevolved ones have no problem making people feel bad either.
There are no cures for Viral infections, there are vaccinations, but only a few and with hundreds of thousands of subspecies within a species, within a particular Phylogenic tree.
Not likely a virus though, too quick and it's affecting people sitting in the stands seemingly out of nowhere. Likely exposure to some kind of chemical or gas.
If it were a virus, airbourne pathogens usually take some time to do their stuff.
Unless, it was something they ate and a fireman just happened to feel queazy at the time.
In fact, I'm starting to feel sick! ... Quickly! Lather me in purell and then throw me in a tub of saline!!!!
Draw some blood!!!! Get the Bubble!! Pandemic!!!!

Remember bird flu? ...
I really wish I could shoot some people.

Swine Flu was far worse. 03-lmfao It hardly killed anyone who wasn't already very sick to begin with.

I agree with you assessment that's not a virus. The worst possible outcome for everything always pops into my mind though. 04-cheers

My neighbor and I already have plotted our course of action for such a situation. 03-lmfao

Band and dance may have had food catered or eaten offsite.

Also if it was visiting groups, could be their buses. Something in emissions?

I called Dr House and all he could tell me is that the kids were lying and that it wasn't lupis

It did put a lot of little kids in the hospital who recovered but unless you between 15 and 50 and otherwise in good health it was very scary what often happened. I got it but as a then 24 year old it was just a regular case of the flu in severity. My mom got it but was much sicker and was sick for over a week even with the Tamiflu but she was 51 at the time and is a diabetic.

It's Austin High (from Houston) not a high school from Austin, TX. Your biggest worry in Austin is going to be STDs. Keep it clean!

I seen that episode on House called Airborne-the one where he and Cuddy are coming home and treat that guy with the bends. Anyways halfway through there is another symptom called "Mass Hysteria" and that is what happened in this case.

One kid got food poisoning from Chinese food-complained and started throwing up, the kids around him did the same thing and so on and so on, even though it was only one guy with the symptom.

Mass Hysteria

What high school? in what city? if this wasn't something they all ingested before the game and it doesn't sound like it was, then it really needs to be determined what caused this nausea to come on all these kids at the same time. It had to be something in the air. Also, did it start with them being on the field at half-time or was it in the stands? That part is a little fuzzy depending on the report you listen to.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if one kid got sick, and several others lost it when the first kid puked. All you'd need is for someone to panic and call 911, and it goes from there as people begin to speculate...

That sounds as plausible as anything else...
