If a 9th member was added, here is a short look at what each school brings:

Memphis -
Biggest bowl win(s) - New Orleans Bowl (2003) over North Texas
Most fans taken to bowl game - 18,000 to the New Orleans Bowl
Average Attendance over the past 15 years - 31,600

East Carolina
Biggest Bowl win(s) - 1992 Peach Bowl vs. NC State, 1995 Liberty Bowl vs. Stanford, 2000 Houston Bowl vs. Texas Tech, 1978 Independence Bowl vs. La Tech
Most fans taken to a bowl - 34,000 to the 1992 Peach Bowl (set Peach Bowl record at that time), 31,607 to 95 Liberty Bowl
Average Attendance over the past 15 years - 36,800
Biggest win(s) over the past 15 years - 1999 vs. #9 Miami, 1996 vs. #11 Miami, 2002 vs. #13 TCU, 2000 vs. #23 Southern Miss, 2000 vs. #22 Cuse, 1995 vs. #19 WVU, 1996 vs. #23 NC State, 1999 vs. NC State, 1995 vs. #17 Stanford, 2000 vs. #23 Texas Tech, 1994 vs. #25 South Carolina
Local Market size (50 miles)- over 450,000, projected growth shows population near 1,000,000 by 2015 (source American Demographic Mag)

On-campus football facilities - new strength and conditioning center, plans for new practice facilities, pressbox, stadium additions and offices
Record against other Big East Candidates:
vs. Memphis - 8-5
vs. UCF - 4-0

UCF
Biggest Bowl win(s) - n/a
Most fans taken to a bowl - n/a
Average Attendance over the past 15 years - 28,400
Biggest win(s) over the past 15 years - 2000 vs. Alabama
Local Market size (50 miles)- over 1.2 million, projected growth shows population near 2.5 million by 2015 (source American Demographic Mag)
Regional Market size (within 150 miles)- 5.8 million (US Census)

On-campus stadium: plans for a new 40,000 seat stadium in the works
On-campus football facilities: plans for new practice facilities, offices, stadium, athletic village, and conditioning center
Record against other Big East Candidates:
vs. Memphis - 0-1

Any other candidates that we should consider? The only reason I bring this up is that there has been talk on local sports shows that we may need to add another team after next season and these are really the only 3 schools being talked about.

Based on the above, ECU would be a viable team. BE should also look at Navy and Army if they are interested.

The only thing about both Army (go Army, my son is currently at WP) and Navy is the fact that their admins believe that both programs will do better by staying independent. Both cannot recruit against conference teams that may have lesser academic standards, larger football budgets, and little appeal. The football player requirements were eased a little, but the life of a football player at WP is no where close to the life of a football player at SU.

With both school signing national TV deals, just as Notre Dame, I don't see neither moving into a conference any time soon. Army's deal with ESPN and Navy's with CSTV provide enough revenue to off-set the lack of BCS dollars. Something that I heard, which I am not sure is true, was that if Army and Navy joined a BCS conference, Air Force must join one as well. Both Army and Navy love to travel the country for football. I know for a fact that Army is trying to schedule games near military "hotbeds" around the country, mainly in states such as Texas, North Carolina, and California.

I just don't see it happening. The only other possible programs that I can think of are UAB, Buff, Temple (oh no), Penn State (I don't see that happening), Marshall, Delaware, UMass, or Nova.

Hey cuseroc, Y don't U tell the SU Jones that this subject has been talked about over and over again and that there are many threads regarding these teams as well as others for a possible BE invite.

He may begin to wonder why this thread isn't drawing that attention.

Here is some info on Toledo, but I don't think Toledo would be on the Big East's list so don't take it that I am pushing for Toledo to the Big East:

Bowl Games - 7-2 record in major bowl games. 3-0 in the Tangerine Bowl, 2-0 in the California Bowl, 1-0 in the Las Vegas Bowl, and 1-2 in the Motor City Bowl

Not sure how you can measure the fans taken to a bowl game, but there was a little over 50K in attendance for the 2004 MCB game and I would say that around 10-15K were UCONN fans and 20-25K were UT fans with the rest being locals.

Longest UT winning streak - 35 games from 1969-1971.......2nd to only Oklahoma's run in Division I football.

Average attendance over the last 5 years - 26,679 (only having 21K in 2001 killed the average)

Television Media Market - 70th largest in the country with 432,430 TV homes in Toledo

Highest ranking in final poll - #12 in AP Poll (1970) #13 in Coaches Poll (1971)

Undefeated seasons - 4 (1969, 1970, 1971, and 1995)

10 win seasons - 6 (1969, 1970, 1971, 1995, 2000, and 2001)

9 win seasons since 1995 - 6 (1995, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2004)

Nationally, the 12 best record in DI-A football since 2000

Football graduation rate for 2004 was 71% (national average is 57%)

#1 in the MAC in marketing and sponsorship revenue (twice as much as the #2 school, WMU)

#2 in the MAC in athletic fundraising

On campus stadium - YES

On campus football facilities - strength and conditioning builing, press box, stadium, outdoor practice field, football offices (indoor football practice facility in the works)

All-time record against New Big East schools - 6-13

Record against NBE since 1995 - 3-3

Biggest wins over the past 15 years (Not including any conference games despite beating ranked conference opponents several times):
2003
Toledo 35
#9 Pittsburgh 31

2001
Toledo 38
Minnesota 7

Toledo 23
Cincy 16
Motor City Bowl

2000
Toledo 24
Penn State 6

1997
Toledo 36
Purdue 22 (Purdue went 9-3 that year)

1995
Toledo 49
Cincy 45

1992
Toledo 33
Purdue 29

Down the road, I can really see Penn St eventually leaving the Big 10 and joining the Big East along with Notre Dame finally coming along. That will make it 10 teams then add East Carolina and a team that has a ton of potential.....Toledo. I have always liked them as a serious candidate and think with being in a BCS conference they would takeoff big time.

The new Big East all sports conference.

Louisville
Connecticut
Syracuse
Cincinnati
South Florida
West Virginia
Rutgers
Pittsburgh
East Carolina
Notre Dame
Penn State
Toledo

I have to say, sitting here watching my non-bcs brethren lobby and make
their sales pitch to some anonymous big east "internet fan" is hilarious.

silly non-bcs fan ( mourning over his lot in life, 'cause some nitwit fan of a school(he didn't even graduate from) tells him he should:

See? Look how good we are. 04-deal You guys have the power!! Let us in!

anon BE internet fan ( typing away in his underwear while munching chee-tos) :

We DO have the power. Tell us more
about your little school. And by the way, what tier are you?

So Bambu which one are you? Look you are over here posting on this board just like I am on the Memphis and CUSA boards from time to time. It is fun to talk about, no one is saying that they have the "power" to change things or are trying to get people to suck up to them. It is just a fun topic for people. If you don't care then don't post about it.

I was just trying to make a funny observation. I'm interested in the BE because it
now has schools that Memphis has a 50-60 year history with. But I feel it's pointless
for me to try to "pitch" Memphis to the BE on a message board. Wouldn't you agree?

(no offense if you were in your underwear, eating chee-tos. if it makes you feel better
I can edit my skit so that the non-bcs beggar is doing the same  )

And I think I have been a lot more tactful and polite over here than some of the BE fans
on the Tiger or CUSA boards, since you seem to think I'm somehow being disrespectful?
( a thread about the CSTV deal with CUSA went 3 or 4 posts deep before a Card fan came
along and shat on it, and it turned into an "our deal is better" pissing match  )

I usually only post here when Memphis is being talked about.

Is that cool with you?
