Best formula. You don't add anymore basketball schools, you keep UL and UC in the east, Nevada provides more AQ points (they finished 11th in the final BCS standings last year) and is the state school of a growing state with a decent market in LV, and SDSU provides a strong market, penetration into the rich recruiting territory of SoCal, and a great trip/incentive for Navy. You keep AQ status, probably add the Las Vegas Bowl, the Poinsettia, and maybe a couple more, you have at least three schools with national brands, and you have 11 of the top 33 DMAs. If you add basketball schools, you have Big East schools with footprints in 16 of the top 35 markets. You go into the TV negotiations saying, "Show me the money!" 04-cheers

I agree with you. Just want to add one footnote. If we can't resolve all the issues at once, we can still make an announcement to setup 12 or 13 teams 2 divisions at first. This assumes one or two of the schools on the list hesitates and wants to see more, particularly Air Force or Navy. We can add UCF, SMU, Houston, Boise State, SDSU, Nevada and one wild card first. I think SDSU and Nevada are eager to join. And once the two join, Boise State will have enough traveling partners and join as well.

Right now Air Force, Navy and BYU are the wild cards. As long as one of them commits, we have enough 12 teams for a championship game and can make the announcement.

No reason to go to 14 unless it gets us all 3 service academies. The only reasons to go to 14 will be if BYU's not the 12th team, but is still interested. Or if we hit 12, and then Army changes its mind.

I'm a big proponent of SDSU, but they're not worth going beyond 12. Neither is Nevada, or any other western team outside of Boise, Air Force, or BYU.

This is becoming my preference, makes travel easier and would set up rivals for everyone. Opens up new markets, and we can add 3 quality programs out west much easier than east. I prefer BYU, Fresno, and SDSU Makes the BE truely a national conference, 2 teams in FL, 2 in TX, and 2 in CA

East:
USF & UCF
UL & UC
RU & UConn
Navy

West:
Air Force
SMU & Houston
BYU & Boise
SDSU & Fresno

Essentially we end up with pairs of schools scattered throughout the country. Each school has a local rival. The only non local one is Navy and AFA, but thats one of the biggest rivalries we'd have in the league.

Just an idea

Plus with 7 team divisions, we will have a more balanced schedule:

6 games in division, 3 home 3 away
1 home 1 away in the other division (Navy and AFA play yearly)
4 OOC

This also makes 7 home games possible. I'm not a huge fan of the 9 game conference schedule because its unbalanced and doesnt allow for 7 home games as easily.

4 home conference games, 4 away, 4 OOC
1 FBS school
1 home game against lower mid major
then 2 games you can split up... i personally like the idea of 1 high profile game and 1 game against a middle of the road BCS team (Maryland, Kansas, BC, Indiana etc)

This presumes much just getting to 12, but if you were going to 14, I would suggest instead of SDSU, go with either CSU or Nevada. I'm sure the SDSU draw is TV market (same as SMU), but the others may offer more when it comes time for AQ re-qualification.

We'll have to wait until UT & OU jump ship in a few years.
