Nothing he said indicated a reading comprehension problem. You disapprove of Louisville's & Rutgers' patriotic helmet. Isn't that what you meant when you said this?
Quote:Not a fan. Stick with your colors. If you want to be patriotic (and that's a cool thing to do) put a flag on your jersey/helmet or something.

I had the same reaction he did, but chose not to respond to you. I posted the photo of Louisville's helmet not to ask your opinion of it, but simply to show that Louisville & Rutgers were on the same page. It was your right to state your opinion, however, just as it cardshouse's right to disagree with you.

Or take the money it takes to produce those helmets and give it to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Perhaps you also have a reading comprehension problem.

You're absolutely correct that I do not like the helmet. Those aren't the school colors which I believe they should stick with for their uniform combinations. I then mention that I think it's cool to do something patriotic, though. As an example I say perhaps they can put a flag on their jersey or the back of their helmet.

Then cardshouse responds to my comment and says "Wow...Veterans weekend & a Pitty fan would say something like that..Shame."

So let's break down what that comment means. When I look at it I tend to think that it's insinuating that something I said was unpatriotic and that I should be ashamed of myself. There is also some sort of indirect angst because I am a Pitt fan. I'm not sure how being a Pitt fan is tied to being unpatriotic or how it should cause me to feel shameful.

Is that also how you read that? Is there a different meaning to this that I am somehow missing? Is that the reaction that you also have? It's objectionable to opine that colors besides red, white, and blue are perhaps more desirable for a team's helmet?

Self-righteous much, people? All teams have a variety of combinations and looks. Let's not pretend we're better or more patriotic than a competitor because a fan of a departing school isn't a fan of their helmet

???? I dont think anyone said anything about being more patriotic. I was just saying that perhaps the resources used to make those helmets would be more useful if donated to the WWP.

Why those helmets? Why not any helmets? Red helmets with white R's cost money, too... money that could be sent to Africa to feed the starving children in Eritrea.

Now that I think about it, why are my beloved Cardinals playing in expensive helmets when there are people being shot in Syria?

Players need helmets, people. If anything, special helmets like these can be sold at top dollar and that money can be sent to a special cause. It's often done, and if the helmets are never used again, I would imagine that's precisely what'll happen. But they'll probably be used again. And the more they're used, the more they'll be worth.

I didn't realize that Rutgers' regular helmets were to honor the starving children in Eritrea. Since they are, perhaps you are right, the money should be sent to the Red Cross to help with the situation. I also applaud Rutgers for first wearing the red helmet with a white R honoring Eritrea in 1961--30 years before the independence of that fine nation. I believe Rutgers should get more credit for its involvement in Etitrea's 30 year fight for freedom from Ethiopia.
