The University of Greenville gaining speed?
I think Greenville may be getting an invite to the BE. If AFA is getting cold feet, then I think they will be poised for a BE invite - all sports.

I'm testing out a new name for ECU - per the suggestions in another thread. I think it looks good. Regardless, I think ECU will be next on deck for the BE, because I don't think the invites are going to go off without a hitch, and at least one school will probably get cold feet, like AFA.

This nonsense needs to stop. No way in hell would ECU change it's name. I'd wager that ECU would flat out turn down an invite from any conference if the condition was changing the name.

I find it condescending and disrespectful, and I'm sick of it.

No disrespect intended. There are people in another thread who theorize that this is possibly an issue for ECU regarding perception and invites to BCS conferences. I'm merely trying it out to see if a different name would change the perceptions of some on here. As an outsider, a name like The University of Greensville has a certain appeal. It still has a strong connection to the region of NC that you guys like plus it eliminates the directional name issue that does in fact have a negative connotation when people are looking at schools - especially when they are not very familiar with the school in question.

If you read the rest of the other thread, you'll see that Pirate fans, including myself, have made it clear how they feel about a name change.
I'll say the same thing I said over there. If you want to talk about nicknaming the school, thats another conversation. But please, particularly as an outsider, don't mess with our identity. There's nothing that'll piss a group of people off quicker is someone else telling them what they should call themselves.

The history of my school: Founded in 1787 as Pittsburgh Academy. Later, the school name was changed to Western University of Pennsylvania in 1819 to be a sister university to the University of Pennsylvania in Philly. The school finally became the University of Pittsburgh in 1908.
At one point Pitt was a directional U too. I know what I am speaking of.

This just in. USC has just changed its name to O.J. University in order to shed itself of the directional stigma and ensure being retained by the PAC12.

Miko, I think we should embrace our location and change our name to The University of Pitt County, or "Pitt" for short.

I am betting you all would change your name on the spot to get into the Big East.

We're not on deck, and we never were on deck. All that rumored support from some of the football-playing members was simply that - rumors. The league knew we weren't in their plans 1-2 years ago, but couldn't muster the decency to give us a resolute "hell no!" so we could move on.

You don't know much about about East Carolina. I'd take that bet in a heartbeat.

Yep no chance we would change our name just to get in the BE. That name signifies our importance to an entire region, much larger than some so called TV market.
