SJSU and Utah State looking to the MWC
http://www.mercurynews.com/sjsu-spartans/ci_19258567

Interesting comments being made by both the MWC commissioner and SJSU's athletic director.

I going to go ahead and call it. MWC will take all remaining WAC schools.

RE: SJSU and Utah State looking to the MWC
The WAC's years as a FB league look to be coming to a close. The remainder of their FB schools are going to be absorbed by the MWC, CUSA and Sun Belt.

Apart perhaps from Idaho. I don't really see any feasible options for them. They might be forced to drop back to the Big Sky (where they belong).

I am guessing they get Utah State, San Jose State, New Mexico State, and UTEP slides over from C-USA. Then C-USA will get the top Sunbelt teams to replace what they lost. They will still have a championship game or just say to hell with it and have their own +1 championship.

I don't think New Mexico would want anything to do with NMSU being in the MWC. NMSU is more likely to the Sun Belt (where they've been before) or CUSA.

It is already being discussed. New Mexico's AD said they wanna make sure they keep all of their rivalries on the schedule and NMSU could be completely left out of another realignment if the Sun Belt decided not to go out of their region again to provide for NMSU......who already bolted the conference once. Then you have to consider why C-USA would take them? They fit better in the MWC.
The only reason UTEP wanted to stay in C-USA was because of Houston and SMU. Since they obviously could care less about UTEP I think the Minors would wanna keep the New Mexico and NMSU rivalries in hand.

RE: SJSU and Utah State looking to the MWC
SJSU and USU make sense for the MWC. I can't see the MWC adding others from the WAC, though. I think the MWC and CUSA will stop at 9 or 10 each b/c having more than that doesn't work for their football alliance.

Wonder if the Sun Belt would take the others for FB only.

RE: SJSU and Utah State looking to the MWC
I think Texas St and UTSA would get a look from either the MWC or C-USA.

The thing after this is that the MWC would be on very thin ice if they're too selective. There's not that many more teams out there. If the MWC and WAC merged now- MWC 8/7 all others WAC 7/10 all others- would be 15 team football and 17 for all sports. La Tech goes to C-USA and it's 14/16. If they do this- it'd be also a way to get back at Boise and Air Force- taking away one of their potential landing spots.

All Sports:
San Diego St, Fresno St, San Jose St, UNLV, Nevada, Idaho, Wyoming, Utah St, Colorado St, New Mexico, New Mexico St, Texas St, UTSA
Football only:
Hawaii
non football:
Seattle, Denver, UT Arlington

football divisions
West:
Hawaii, San Diego St, Fresno St, San Jose St, Nevada, UNLV, Idaho
East:
Wyoming, Colorado St, Utah St, New Mexico, New Mexico St, Texas St, UTSA

basketball/other sports:
Seattle and Denver in west, UT Arlington in East

If C-USA takes Texas St and UTSA- do one of 2 things.
1- invite Montana and Montana St- put them in the west and move Nevada and UNLV to the East(more of a southwest division then)
2- stay at 12- move Idaho to the east(it'd be more of a mountain division)

RE: SJSU and Utah State looking to the MWC
MWC TV partners have been telling MWC to expand before defections.
SJST, Utah St, UTEP & LousT gives MWC CCG
would Tulsa & or Rice be intrested, MWC has Indepedence bowl, LousT would help keep bowl

I don't think La Tech helps anyone with anything, personally. Louisiana would be a better pick for CUSA, and UNT and/or UTSA would be a better pick for the MWC.

RE: SJSU and Utah State looking to the MWC
UTEP does not want to leave the Texas schools though. With Houston and SMU leaving though, they might be more open to it, but I think UTEP would prefer CUSA reload with N Texas that way keeping a Dallas and Houston area team on the schedule every year. That is what appears to be the reason MWC expansion did not go down a couple months ago. They couldn't get UTEP on board to join with Utah St. I still don't think UTEP will be willing to go back west

RE: SJSU and Utah State looking to the MWC
I do think the MWC would be more willing to expand now than before. Boise and Air Force were the ones fighting expansion(because none of the expandees did anything to help the AQ battle).

Don't think La Tech would be in the MWC over C-USA. and don't think UTEP would move over. C-USA Picking up Texas St, UTSA, and La Tech(them in East with So Miss, UAB, Memphis, ECU, and Marshall)....

C-USA back filling with Sun Belt schools, Sun belt would turn into C-USA, much like WAC has turned into MWC.
C-USA has to have long range plan, Keep core of SW schools & take a block from MAC to go along with Marshall who sits on island

IMHO, the MWC should Add Utah State...then CUSA and MWC should simply merge.

templefootballfan...what SBC teams has CUSA added? None.

I think you are pretty close with that. Rumors, we all love rumors, are that CUSA will replace defectors with large market teams. Most likely candidates are UNT (DFW), FIU or FAU (Miami) and Temple. Not sure if Temple would be interested but pretty sure the others would be. UMass is another rumored school of interest to CUSA so that would be 2 MAC schools.

UTEP would be happy with UNT in DFW area and Rice in Houston. UTEP still might go west if cross-over games in Texas were made available.

RE: SJSU and Utah State looking to the MWC
If the mwc doesn't want to team up with cusa at 10 each with a playoff, than I'd probably go with the mwc adding utah state, san jose state, UTEp and either UTSA or N texas to get to 12. Also, maybe bring in denver to pair with hawaii football only. The wac is toast. CUSA could do the same getting to 12 with replacements, n texas, la tech, fl A or I + one more eastern school, maybe temple or Ga State. If the mwc and cusa wanted to go 14, the teams are around, its just those leagues will be more on the mac level than the verge of bcs...than again, some of their school's might breakthrough.

RE: SJSU and Utah State looking to the MWC
After losing it's best football members the "alliance" is called off.

The MWC makes a deal with the WAC that they will take Texas State and UTSA along with Utah State and SJSU.

MWC:

Colorado State
Fresno State
Hawaii/Denver
Nevada
New Mexico
New Mexico State*
San Diego State
San Jose State*
Texas State*
UNLV
Utah State*
UTEP*
UTSA*
Wyoming

C-USA wants to get back to 12. FIU gets them into Miami. Georgia State gets them Atlanta and helps bridge the gap from ECU to FIU. North Texas replaces SMU. WKU bridges Marshall to Memphis and the rest of the conference.

CUSA:

ECU
FIU*
Georgia State*
Marshall
Memphis
North Texas*
Rice
Southern Miss
Tulane
Tulsa
UAB
Western Kentucky*

Fixed. It has basically been confirmed that SJSU and USU are getting an invite. There is also speculation from a New Mexico source that they wanna get NMSU in. UTEP has considered moving over to the MWC but that is only a rumor right now. It makes sense though. They are rivals with both New Mexico schools anyway and it is obvious the other Texas schools could care less about UTEP.
Also...You forgot Wyoming. They are the 3rd best team in the conference right now.
Denver would take Hawaii's basketball spot. Hair and their president are good friends and the MWC offices are in Denver. Plus Denver is growing rapidly.
Not sure about the C-USA side but you are probably spot on.

I forgot about Wyoming. So my plan would put the MWC at 13 teams. New Mexico State can take the 14th spot. 04-cheers
