ECU: No We Have Not Given Up...Still Hoping for the Best
still being as patient as possible. Whatever the schools decide to
do, we'll abide by the decision. I would hope they see enough value in ECU for the football side to justify inviting them as a full member.
To really grow and flourish, it would be nice to finally be included in the Big East in an East Coast based conference. Naturally we're tired of having to worry about this. Hoping for the best from the Big East front office. Somebody make our holiday! We could use a boost.
Please put ECU in a position to compete with these BCS schools that the Pirates are facing every year. Get them up and running BEFORE other defections happen later. That serves the league best to have a strong ECU in the fold with enough lead time to be of help.

For what its worth, I am baffled that ECU is NOT being mentioned as a candidate.

I just can't understand why they aren't on the short list. Makes no damn sense to me at all.

The Big East could stick their thumb in the eye of the ACC by "BCS-izing" the Pirates -- which is a side benefit to this.

Good luck -- you aren't the only ones hoping you get an invite.

Hang tight guys, we're pulling for you. I really feel like you have a lot of support from the "potentially" invited schools.

Thanks, we need all the support we can get. I don't understand why this is going down like this... and frankly I'm kind of numbed by it. I would love to see ECU and USM in this thing at some point.

Truthfully, I do not believe that it will ever happen. The BE could grow to 20 teams and they would find a reason not to include us.

On to USM... and then UCF. Belive it or not, ECU fans might be upset about the non-invite, but most of us understand why UCF, Houston and SMU are making the decisions they are making.

I guess we will now have to watch Memphis, Temple, Buffalo and Nevada and Cal Poly get picked for AQ status ahead of us. Great.

Thus the reason the Big East is falling apart. Bad leadership. The Big East would rather be walked on by the ACC. They only look at market size, not market interest. They are going to learn the hard way when they wonder why no one is watching or showing up to an SMU or UCF game. There are other fish that take more precedence over those teams in those markets. No disrepect to these guys and what they are doing.

Latest I've heard is that ECU wanted all sports and "basketball schools" laughed. Requested a trip to Greenville to see everything and no one came.

Latest rumor is that the BE is going to add Hawaii FB only.

You'll get no argument from me on that point at all. The Big East Leadership has been HORRID. Absolutely, un equivocally, HORRID.

ECU is a no brainer.

Southern Miss not far behind.

As an outside and impartial observer, how much more could the ACC screw with the BE that they haven't done already? They've taken or are in the process of taking 5 programs from the BE. Interesting that VT is the only one of the 5 that is any better than mediocre on the gridiron at this time.

Can't imagine that the ACC wants to be more than a 14 team league, the BE needs to call the ACC's bluff and add ECU. What would they have to lose at this point?

I'd always thought that ECU and UCF would be the top two taken if any expansion occurred. Totally dumbfounded ECU isn't considered. I know UCF would support ECU coming on-board. You'd think the Big East would want ECU to help with bowl tie-ins. They travel very well.

It is what it is. I can't really come up with any good reason why at this point, but it's obvious at this point that no matter how many teams the BE loses we will never be a part of it. Time to try to figure out the next move for ECU. Have to hope C-USA is going to help us out geography wise with new members that make sense.

Hate to say, but UofL is one of the schools against adding ECU. They always have. They kept us out when C-USA first fromed and then fought to keep ECU from getting all sports in, to the point they almost got thrown out of C-USA.

Article from 2004:

On the final day of C-USA meetings in May 1996, Louisville's delegation bolted from Florida's Sandestin Hilton and skipped the final business sessions. In the hospitality room, conversation among other members raged about Louisville's opposition to football expansion leading to the walkout. C-USA initially claimed the Cardinals left early because of travel conflicts--but 20 days later, Louisville obtained a temporary restraining order to prevent the league from expelling the Cardinals. A couple of weeks later, the sides reached an agreement that kept Louisville as a full member and cleared the way for Army and East Carolina to join in football.

RE: ECU: No We Have Not Given Up...Still Hoping for the Best
Still lots of moving parts going on. Going to 14 would make ECU possible. I really think the BE are going to make a go at BYU for #12 which does make the most sense.

If BYU doesn't go along.....then the next names we are hearing is Temple and Memphis basically because of their basketball.

Well Temple seems to have a Nova problem. So if Temple continues to be blocked.....then Memphis would probably get that 12th spot.

But if you go to 14.....ECU would have to be considered at that point. Lots of what if's there though.

USF has supported ECU....but with the way things look....I still don't think it is likely. I still think Nova could mess things up and try to move up.

Actually I see you as being in but just as with Memphis, after the AQ BS is resolved. I seriously think the BE will have a 16 team Football side with ECU as a member.

Eatsern Division:

Central Florida
Cincinatti
Connecticut
East Carolina
Navy
Rutgers
South Florida
Temple

Western Division:

Air Force
Brigham Young
Boise St.
Houston
Louisville
Memphis
Southern Methodist
Nevada or Southern Miss.

That is what I believe to be the final look of the Football side and I believe they will have 24 Basketball schools. Just MHO or wishful thinking.

Also....keep in mind....the B12 will probably expand again in 2015 when their new TV contract is negotiated. I could see them approaching Louisville and Cincinnati....27+ months prior to the negotiations to see if they would move over. The BE would again have to backfill and at that point....you can only leave out ECU and their fanbase for so long. Plus geographically...it is relatively close to the FL schools, Navy and the Northeast.

No it really looks like the BE is going to try their best to leave us out forever. By 2015 I'm sure there will be some other team no one could have ever dreamed of being a candidate in some large city with marginal fan support that will be ahead of us. I mean really we have already reached the point where there are at least 7 teams ahead of us on the BE's list if not more.
