RE: Venue for BigEast12 Football Championship?
It is easy to determine it will be at Nippert Stadium every year since the Cincinnati Bearcats are going to dominate the new BIG EAST!!

ACC is 700 tickets from selling out this year's game already and the teams aren't determined yet.

Well, if the ACC can consistently sell out the CCG game at a neutral field then of course my position will change. However I don't care what the alleged attendance figures have been over the years, the crowds at most of the past games have been an embarrassment. Hopefully Charlotte is the sweet spot.

If this year sells out like it looks like it will, the game will be averaging 57.5k fans. If you take out those two years in Tampa where the game never should have been, the average rises to 66.7k. If it had been held at the highest ranked team and sold out each year the average would have been 54.8k.

The fact that Miami (and now Pittsburgh) don't own their stadiums and GT has the SEC championship game in town the same day would create huge issues.

The other thing is we get paid to have it at a neutral site so why would we give up the revenue from that?

Averages even more if you take out the actual attendance (walk in the stadium) in Jacksonville in 2007

Do you stay true to Big East roots and put it in the North East?
Do you try and find a place in the middle?
or Do you adopt C-USA's approach of leading team hosts it?

Either home game for the best team in the conference *or* get Yankee Stadium! They have to do it up for the pinstripe Bowl anyway and that might really start getting NYC buyin to the Big East

I think the conference would be crazy to make it a neutral site game but if they did Yankee Stadium would be it. It's not too big (which is important given the limited ability for fans to travel on a weeks notice from very far distances), would increase New York attention (important), and is in a very recognized location (unlike other new stadiums, the Yankees were better at transferring their history to the one).

That said, the clear best option in my opinion is still to have it at the higher seeds stadium.

I understand the issue, but if they were serious about a neutral site, given the geographical issues at play, they almost have to choose a location that attracts people who otherwise wouldn't travel. Yankee Stadium (in my opinion) would be the best of a lot of bad choices for neutral site locations.

Playing the title game in a baseball stadium would be the cherry on top of all this.

I can't speak for Miami but I can absolutely guarantee you that if the game were to be played at Pitt it would be absolutely no issue whatsoever. The Steelers do it every single year - it's called the NFL playoffs. Remember the Steelers don't own Heinz Field any more than Pitt does. Rather it is owned by the Allegheny County Sports and Exhibition Authority. If there was even a chance that Pitt was going to need that venue on that date the deal would be done in five minutes.

Then when the league passes over ECU for the 10,000th time and instead adds Memphis and Temple I'd tell him that ECU is a shoe-in for that 16th spot if and when the league goes to 16 schools.

Also, at halftime I'd make him do an Orange Bowl style extravaganza exalting the greatness of the Big East and its leadership and how ECU would fit into those plans - in song. Then again I'm a bit of a jerk and schitt like that makes me laugh.

See, this is what I'm worried about.

This is a crowd shot of the 2007 ACC Championship Game between No. 11 Boston College and No. 6 Virginia Tech. The photo was taken between the third and fourth quarters of a game that was tied at 16. The Hokies would go on to win, 30-16.

The ACC actually had the temerity to announce this crowd as 53,212. In the words of ESPN's NFL Monday Night Football Countdown to Kickoff crew: C'mon Man!

As I said, perhaps Charlotte will be better - it certainly was last year - but some of the past games were an absolute disaster no matter how hard anyone tries to spin things differently. If Charlotte sells out every year then this issue is moot. But not every year is going to have Florida State V Virginia Tech - two of the league's three best traveling fan bases. There are going to be years when schools like Pitt, Boston College, Miami, Syracuse, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest or Duke play in the game and when those games happen it would be a shame if they were playing in a stadium like that which is pictured above. What little sponsorship money we would gain from it would be more than offset by the perceptual losses shots like this would cause the league. Over time that would lead to less money for everyone.

No disrespect at ECU, but here hopping for BYU for the 12th spot. 04-rock

How about there be a requirement that you sell out your own stadium during the regular season before you start wanting to host the championship game and costing us all money.

Just having some fun with the Pirate faithful. Most of them have a good sense of humor and know that I'm joking. The Southern Miss psychos on the other hand are an altogether different lot.

I make ONE Brett Favre showing off his junk joke and they all go cuckoo bananas.

RE: Venue for BigEast12 Football Championship?
Problem I have with the highest seed hosting is stadium capacities. UConn, SMU, and Houston are under 50k. UCF and Cincy are too but they have other venues readily available. SMU and Houston both have NFL teams in their city and could work something out.

UConn's 40k stadium is the biggest it has in the state... not sure if that's enough.

CUSA's 1st championship game was in the 50k range, the rest were well under but they were all sell out games because of capacity. Personally, 2007 felt like it could have sold a lot more tickets.

Clearly the most logical choice is PPL Park, the fact that big time college football isn't played there is a crime 03-2thumbsup

Soldier Field in Chicago?

Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis?

Edward Jones in St. Louis?

Nah, just rotate the championship game between the Meadowlands, Fed Ex Field, Heinz Field and Lincoln Financial Field.
