RE: MAC West Hopes?
Basically, in college football it's consistency and playing to your level. During the NIU game, it could have been a loss, understandable, but we played like crap. Then against EMU, well, it's EMU despite improved, we couldn't score again. Then against BSU, our O came back (albeit to a BSU team with a laughable D this season), and we held on -- which was a good win. It's just disappointing not playing up to par -- especially after we were supposed to have a great team for the season + how we showed ourselves early on.
In college football, there's not too much room for error. We can make up for that by beating Toledo, but I think our two losses to NIU+EMU showed more than just "error" -- that along with our game against BSU showed inconsistency... not a champ-contender team, but a dangerous one who could beat anyone or lose to almost anyone. Dangerous for an opponent, dangerous to fans who had their hopes up.
But we can finish the large dog off by beating Toledo (which would be a statement after Toledo lost @ home on Nat TV a week prior), and at Miami, and then a nice stomp of Akron at home. That would make it a nice season overall, and okay/understandable/acceptable for a team that was supposed to have a Great ensemble. But again, nice overall as any season goes.
As far as bowls go -- uhhh, Temple beat the Big East Champs and was 8-4, and didn't go to one last year. Remember, bowls for MAC teams are more limited than they were several years ago. *3* definitely -- 4 if luck happens to play out.

RE: MAC West Hopes?
Losing to Eastern while scoring only 10 points makes one think winning out is unlikely.
And if we somehow tie for MAC West championship after LOSING TO EASTERN WHILE SCORING ONLY 10 POINTS...
Well, not cause to celebrate in my book. Would just mean mediocrity reigns.
