RE: Contacts to Show Support for UAB
Two words: "Arab Spring." I know people might think that internet posts don't really matter, but they happened to have changed multiple NATIONS in a matter of weeks. It is fair to say that the Arab Spring, that these political and cultural revolutions, would not have been possible without social media.

If social media can play such an important role in the re-shaping of corrupt governments, it can surely aid us in our struggles with the BOT. So write and create things that have the potential to go viral. Expose them.

RE: Contacts to Show Support for UAB
Guys,

As an ETSU alum and dealing with your leftovers in basketball I can't help but see what's happening here. It's more than just contacting some sports guys to help fight it for you, though going that route you should also include Sports By Brooks and Dan Wetzel.
Also, the creation of Facebook and Twitter pages, as well as a Foundation separate of the university should be founded IMMEDIATELY. You guys need student involvement. That is key in this campaign. Make sure the students who support UAB are on board fighting for your university to have a fully funded, successful football program. There's no excuse that UAB doesn't have that.
Next, it's time to involve the city and state government. Within the city, this stadium provided an opportunity for an economic boom, both with the creation of jobs to build the stadium as well as new concessions jobs, parking attendants, etc... Plus, with the bowl game they have, even though it's meaningless it is an SEC bowl tie in so it's going to draw fans, so a nice new stadium out of the hood could potentially draw MORE fans, which means a bigger stimulus for the city of Birmingham and possibly even the university itself. Contact your local representative, as well as city government, and state government. Get after these people as hard as you can. Show that you care, show that there's support and put a stop to this.
Lastly, CALL JESSE JACKSON AND AL SHARPTON. I'm dead serious, get those two down there showing how a school known for its' racism (UAT) is trying to hurt a school like UAB's minority enrollment by doing this. You think I'm joking, but the appearance of those two and the words University of Alabama and racist in the same sentence will pucker enough buttholes in state government that the BOT will do whatever is necessary to make them go away. I hate to see that card played, but as dirty as those slackjaws in Tuscaloosa play, you have to play dirty too.
GET AFTER THEIR ASS.

If you want to accomplish absolutely nothing and turn this into a laughing stock, call Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. And I say this as a Democrat who voted for Al Gore, John Kerry, and Barack Obama.

You are probably right. My point is we need to hold nothing back. We have to use ay tactic that will produce results. Maybe this isn't one.
I am losing my mind right now because I am so pissed.

RE: Contacts to Show Support for UAB
Just got of the phone with the governor's office. Actually had a very nice series of conversations with his staff. They don't know why it was pulled either but they're trying to find out. Call the office and let them know how you feel. You can either ask for constituent services (this will log the number of calls and subject for determination of discussion priority) or ask to speak to Emily in appointments. I warned them they would be getting calls today, MAKE IT HAPPEN. 334-242-7100

Normally the Governor doesn't get involved with Board of Trustees meetings, but he did get involved with Auburn board stuff, so he may be inclined to do so here

I made the call. They're logging them and passing them along to the Governor--and there have been more than a few this morning. Keep it up!

RE: Contacts to Show Support for UAB
I called the Govenors office and made my complaint. I took the approach this was a shovel ready project that provided jobs for Alabamians. I explained the stadium was funded and paid for by UAB and would turn a profit. I also talked about how this was vital for the development of Birmingham. When you call be sure to hammer home the economic development stuff!

Remember be Nice.

Jeffrey McLaughlin - Marshall County (District 27) Alabama House of Representatives. Jeff Mclaughlin is possibly the last honest elected man in Montgomery. Jeff is Harvard educated after his undergrad at BSC and his law firm partner, Rodney Edmonson went to Jones School of Law in Montgomery.
