RE: ECU Governor and Senators plead to the Big East to get out of CUSA
1. Neither conference would be a BCS conference by itself, won't be when merged together, the bottom feeders of the 2 conferences are bringing them down.

2. Regional travel for who? Houston/SMU/UTEP? Yeah them of course. ECU/Marshall/UCF not really, still about the same, or a little worse then we have it now.

3. Who gives a crap about a play off game when it would take away from one of my teams OOC game against a regional BCS team.

4. From my understanding they are trying to set this up in a pod system, when has the pod system ever worked?

It is all about money and perception. Although the "New Big East" will not be a juggernaut of a conference it will still be better from top to bottom than the CUSA/MWC merger and the money will still be substantially better. Also Memphis and Temple have had their politicians get involved as well. So it is not just ECU....The bottom line, if you are not included now it may never happen. Even though there is a good chance the Big East will remain unstable it is a chance that needs to be taken.

the BE is MUCH better travel for ECU than the current CUSA... almost all our opponents are within 600 miles

Re: East Carolina University – Interest in the Big East Conference
Ladies and Gentlemen:
We are writing as three state-wide North Carolina elected officials – its Governor and its two United States Senators – and in support of the effort of East Carolina University (“ECU”) to become a member of the Big East Conference. In this effort, we speak – along with a majority of North Carolinians – with one voice.

Our State has a strong tradition of public universities with both excellent academic records and deep commitments to intercollegiate athletics. ECU, as fully described in the letter from University of North Carolina system President Tom Ross, follows in that tradition.
ECU is an institution whose presence would serve to strengthen the Big East as a conference by bringing its deep ties to the entire State of North Carolina into the Big East fold.

ECU, by virtue of its growing academic reach, its proven track record in football and other intercollegiate sports, and its ardent fan base throughout North Carolina, is a school that can and will serve the Big East well.
We would very much appreciate your serious consideration of East Carolina University.

So much for East Carolina wanting to stick it out with CUSA, should have seen this one coming. First its San Diego State, now its ECU.

Govenor's Letter to the Big East

This was already posted....Why post again with your spin, you could have just commented on the thread that was already listed. But anyway, desperate times required desperate acts. You are lucky that UCF is one of the chosen ones and you do not have to resort to these kinds of actions. If we get left out this time all the money we poured into our facilities would be for not as all of this was completed in an effort to make us more attractive. I know many people have been poo pooing in the "New Big East" but overall it is still a better situation for ECU from a money and travel situation.

Please explain how it will be better from a "travel standpoint" when the teams being talked about are Boise State, Air Force, SMU and Houston? You thought UTep was a long trip?....have fun on that trip to Boise and Air Force.

Their will be divisions just like in CUSA for football and football travel is not the real issue anyway...The issue is travel for the non-revenue sports and basketball. Boise and AF will not be included for all sports so it is not like you will be sending your non-revenue sports out there for games...The major base of the conference for non-revenue sports is a lot closer to North Carolina. Really does not matter anyway, it is not like the Big East is really interested in ECU. I think this move was more for public consumption since other schools were doing it....That way out local politicians and our administration can not be criticized for not working this angle like other schools have in this realignment mess.

Yes, I know. But I hate the idea of the BE now. The above is why I hate the alliance

RE: ECU Governor and Senators plead to the Big East to get out of CUSA
I have been visiting the ECU board in anticipation of our game this week. Last week they were all about "screw the BE", "we don't want to be in no stinking watered down BE" and so on. Now after this letter came out they are pissing all over themselves that this means they are getting the #7 spot that had to have just opened. One ECU poster is even positive that Boise and Navy went to bat for ECU to get them in. I mean, there was a girl in my high school that did the entire student body and she had more self respect than most ECU fans.

I want the BE to die, but for it to die everyone is going to have to tell them no. I just don't believe everyone will. If it's going to live as much as I hate it I would want to be in it, but I would rather everyone band together and force it to fail.

You visited the Banter board....That place is a nut house. You can not believe a damn thing posted on that board. Just a bunch of non-sense, some of the posts on that board about expansion have been flat out hilarious. You have several guys on there that like to pretend they are "insiders" and have posted nothing but bogus info on that board. There are one or two guys in their that are pretty big boosters and usually have good information but for the most part the information on that board is not very reliable.

Boneyard. I go to the Rivals board and there just isn't much traffic there. Plus the guy banned me so long ago on the Rivals board, I don't even remember what he banned me for. I probably deserved it I guess.

The "money and perception" left with Pitt, Syracuse, TCU, and WVU. That's the reality and that's not including Louisville and UConn trying there best to get out.

For the record, this ECU fan hates the idea of the BE and HATES the idea of the alliance.

Right there with you. From Day 1 I've said the MTNWAC West was the driving force because they will need us far more than we would ever need them. I've also been a massive critic of the Big East compared to CUSA.

The irony of all these popticians getting involved is that most of the wouldn't know the difference between 1-A & 1-AA. Majority of them are just speaking out to get their names out there like Manchin in WV. Though he is a big sports fan, but he is a WVU lover whom needs to win an election.

What's your point *******? Its not like UCF was exactly first choice for the Big East. If they were, you probably would have been invited with TCU last year.

Check your URL. Somehow you must think this is the UCF rivals page. Its like you drove from Oakland to SF but forgot you weren't in the ghetto anymore.

You are right to a certain extent but the Big East will still be higher profile and will provide its members with more money as well.

Sorry you took it personal, but it is what I have seen. I am sure if a strong rumor of USM maybe getting an invite happened, the same type of stuff would occur on our boards. I am just tired of all of it.
